Although Jujutsu Kaisen is full of endearing characters, Yuji Itadori has undoubtedly always been a particular fan favourite. With his bravery and charisma, The Jujutsu Sorcerer won the admiration of his followers in no time. However, the manga’s Chapter 143’s revelation about Yuji’s family history has the power to fundamentally alter his persona.
Since Yuji’s grandfather attempted to broach the subject in Jujutsu Kaisen’s first chapter/episode, fans have speculated about who Yuji’s parents might be. Yuji cut off the conversation, leaving the audience in the dark about his family history until a recent look into his past revealed intriguing secrets about his ancestry.
Parents of Yuji Itadori May Be Able to Explain His Talents
This insight into Yuji’s family came after a battle between Yuji and Yuta, the protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen 0. Yuji takes some time out of the chaos of Shibuya to reflect on his past after establishing Yuta as an ally. In this flashback, Yuji’s father, Jin Itadori, is seen arguing with Yuji’s grandfather about Jin’s child with his second wife after the tragic death of his first. Yuji’s mother enters the room with a familiar scar across her forehead. These stitches, reminiscent of Geto Suguru and Noritoshi Kamo, suggested that Yuji’s birth mother was possessed by Brain. Theories suggest that Brain once more took control of a woman’s body in order to give birth to human-curse hybrids, with this particular experiment producing Yuji.
If this is the case, then it sheds some light on the mystery behind Yuji’s ability to withstand being Sukuna’s vessel. He is a unique holder of the King of Curses, and it is rare for someone to develop such a heightened mastery of cursed energy so quickly while also suppressing Sukuna. However, if Yuji is a half curse/half-human hybrid, it’s little surprise that he managed to control Sukuna despite having no knowledge of curses or even Jujutsu Sorcery.
Yuji Might Have Several Siblings
That’s not all — if Yuji’s mother was imprisoned by Brain, then Yuji would also have multiple half-siblings (the most prominent being Choso). It was confirmed in Jujutsu Kaisen’s “Death Painting” arc that Brain entrapped a woman in an experiment to birth multiple hybrids. This means that not only is Choso in the family line, but Yuji also killed two of his brothers — Kechizu and Eso — alongside his classmate, Nobara Kugisaki. Finding out this information could be devastating for Yuji’s psyche, as it’s likely that he would not only be confused about his heritage, but consumed by guilt upon discovering he killed two of his half-siblings.
Both Geto and Choso are notable antagonists in Jujutsu Kaisen. Yuji will inevitably suffer as he discovers more connections and learns more secrets. This could be the start of a devastating character arc full of emotional turmoil, or it could be a step towards developing the protagonist’s strength and determination.
