Jujutsu Kaisen fans can now wield their own replica of Jujutsu Kaisen 0’s Yuta’s sword, Rika not included.
As reported by Otaku USA Magazine, Proplica, whose name is a mash-up of “prop” and “replica,” specializes in bringing high-quality replicas of props from anime series to life. The company has pulled Yuta’s sword from the prequel anime film Jujutsu Kaisen 0 straight out of the screen and into fans’ hands with the PROPLICA Otsukotsu no Katana -Theatrical Version JUJUTSU KAISEN 0- ~Rika Manifestation~ prop sword. While it doesn’t hold any of the devastating power that the weapon has in the anime, it does have a few tricks up its sheathe. Inside the hilt is a built-in motor to imitate the vibrating effects from its magic manifestation cry. By slashing the sword or moving the hands on the hilt, fans will hear various lines from the movie accompanying the movement, so they can properly recreate the scene in real life. Fans will also find a special booklet included with the sword.
Yuta’s Proplica Sword Helps Fans Bring the Magic Home
Inside the hilt is a built-in motor to imitate the vibrating effects from its magic manifestation cry. By slashing the sword in the air or moving the hands on the hilt, fans will hear various lines from the movie accompanying the movement, so they can properly recreate the scene in real life. Once fans finish fighting, wipe the sweat off their brows and the imaginary blood off their blades, they can display Yuta’s sword on the stand, which comes included. Fans can purchase the sword replica at 14,850 yen ($112), including tax, when it goes on sale in June.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 premiered in 2021, under Sunghoo Park’s direction, based on Gege Akutami’s prequel manga series. Produced by MAPPA, the story follows Yuta Okkotsu, whose childhood friend Rika is now an overprotective cursed spirit who refuses to leave him alone. Just before the Jujutsu Society executed Yuta, Tokyo Jujutsu Technical High’s teacher and most powerful sorcerer Satoru Gojo invites him to attend school. However, the world is thrust into danger when Suguru Geto, a former student at the school, launches an all-out war on non-sorcerers.
While the prequel film garnered much praise for its high animation quality, the exploration of new and familiar characters and exciting fight scenes, earning over 13 billion yen during its box office run in Japan, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 wasn’t without its controversies. The Japanese voice actor for Suguru Geto, Takahiro Sakurai, pulled out of Jump Festa due to his decade-long extramarital affair. Four voice actors for the English dub, including Chris Tergliafera, Anairis Quiñones, Tara Jayne Sands and Kayleigh McKee revealed the obscenely low pay they received for portraying their respective characters in a film that became the sixth highest-grossing anime film worldwide.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 along with the first season of the series are available to stream on Crunchyroll. Both manga series are available to read on VIZ Media.
