Yoshihiro Togashi, the writer of Hunter x Hunter, has shared a tweet that provides a positive look at the manga’s status and his health.
The iconic author tweeted some auspicious news, revealing he has finished illustrating the latest chapter of the ongoing Hunter x Hunter series, Chapter 401. “Although the production system has not been solidified yet for the manga, I am glad that my working time at the desk is gradually increasing little by little,” he stated in a tweet translation posted by Anime Senpai. While the creator expressed concerns about the manga’s production system, he remained optimistic about his time working at the desk, with progress coming, even if it is slow.
Concerns were recently conveyed that Shōnen Jump would cancel the manga, thanks to the project’s unreliable status as a serialized title and the publication’s new classification system. This update from Togashi confirms that the series will continue but does not address its future status with Shōnen Jump at this moment.
Hunter x Hunter’s Health-Related Hiatuses
The HxH franchise has had a turbulent time in the past few years thanks to the health struggles of its author. The series began a four-year hiatus in November 2018 as a result of Togashi’s chronic back pain, deeply impacting the release schedule. Fans were left without new content for a long time before the series would return in 2022, releasing more chapters in October. However, an additional hiatus was announced only two months later in December, again due to Togashi’s struggles with working on the project and managing his back pain.
Hunter x Hunter began its serialization in Weekly Shōnen Jump in March 1998 and would continue until 2018, with a few hiatuses throughout the run. The series has been adapted into two anime projects, one in 1999, which ran for 62 episodes, and one in 2011, which featured. Both of these anime titles were received positively.
The story follows a young boy named Gon Freecss, who strives to become a Hunter. In this world, Hunters are elite people capable of battling dangerous beasts, uncovering treasures, and much more. He sets out on his quest to become the world’s best Hunter and to find his missing father, a famous Hunter who left their family years ago. Along the way, he meets many iconic characters such as Kuilla, Leorio, Kurapika and the powerful villain Hisoka.
