A Cyberpunk: Edgerunners super fan brings the spirited netrunner Lucy out of the screen and into the “real world.”

The cosplayer KIMI recently showed off her take on the Night City femme fatale via Instagram. She uploaded an image of herself in the popular character’s costume, complete with a wig and makeup effects that have her appearing as accurate to the anime as possible. She is also pictured in front of a cyberpunk-inspired backdrop that makes the cosplay appear to take place in the sci-fi series itself.

The Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’ Fan’s Detailed Cosplay

KIMI is wearing the iconic cropped white jacket and netrunner unitard that Lucy, full name Lucyna Kushinada, wears throughout the series — a look that has become iconic within the Cyberpunk fandom. Additionally, she sports the character’s bob haircut thanks to an impressive silver wig that has shades of pastel color in the tips, much like her look in the source material. The cosplayer completes the aesthetic by utilizing Lucy’s cybernetic weapon of choice, a Monowire, editing it into the photo to appear as if being used. The comments on the post showered the cosplayer with praise, describing her as “beautiful,” “magic,” “gorgeous” and more.

Lucy plays a significant role in the anime from Studio Trigger, which adapts the controversial video game Cyberpunk 2077 from CD Projekt Red, released in 2020 to disappointment thanks to its unfinished state. The character is a cybernetic hacker known as a netrunner who can access digital spaces for assassinations, thievery and more. She is introduced early into the show after meeting the protagonist David Martinez, with the pair sharing a memorable night before a conflict propels him into the hands of an edgerunner crew. Lucy quickly became one of the most popular characters in the series thanks to her sleek design, compelling backstory, strong motivation and relationship with the main character.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was released on Netflix in September 2022 and received overwhelmingly positive reviews from fans and critics. It even bested projects like Spy x Family, Demon Slayer, Attack on Titan and Ranking of Kings to be crowned as “Anime of the Year” at the Crunchyroll anime awards 2023. In addition, the show’s director recently gave their twisted take on Shin Kamen Rider.

Edgerunners tells the story of a young man living in the streets of Night City as he attempts to survive the harsh, technologically advanced setting. He soon joins an edgerunner crew and takes on criminal activity, enhancing his body and putting his life in danger for the sake of achieving a new one. The series is available to watch on Netflix.
