Readers of the Chainsaw Man manga will have to wait a little longer to see how Chapter 121’s extensional cliffhanger resolves.
According to a post on the series’ official Twitter account, the ongoing manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto has entered a short, one-week hiatus. As such, Chapter 122 of Chainsaw Man will now debut on March 8 in Japan, followed by its English release soon afterward.
Fujimoto’s story first appeared in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump in December 2018 before the series was moved to Shōnen Jump+ in 2020, where it continues its serialization run to this day. Set in a world where devils are a very real threat, the plot focuses on Denji, an extremely poor young man who takes on dangerous jobs to work off the massive debt left behind by his dead father. However, after being betrayed by his mafia employers, Denji is recruited by the mysterious Makima and joins the Public Safety unit, where he uses his unique power to transform his limbs into chainsaws to hunt down and kill devils.
With over 23 million copies in circulation around the world, Chainsaw Man stands as one of the best-selling manga of all time alongside Hiro Mashima’s Rave Master and Clamp’s Cardcaptor Sakura. Moreover, it has claimed top spots on the New York Times Best Sellers list for graphic books many times, and it won the Harvey Award for Best Manga in both 2021 and 2022.
How to Watch Chainsaw Man
While manga readers will have to wait to experience more of Fujimoto’s story, they can satisfy their Chainsaw Man inch in multiple other ways in the interim. For example, MAPPA highly anticipated anime adaptation of the series premiered towards the end of last year and all twelve episodes of the first season are available to stream on Crunchyroll. The show stars Kikunosuke Toya (Tokyo 24th Ward) as Denji alongside Fairouz Ai (The Eminence in Shadow) as Power, Shogo Sakata (Fire Force) as Aki and Tomori Kusunoki (The Misfit of Demon King Academy) as Makima.
There is a wealth of available fan-made Chainsaw Man content to consume as well. Notably, the series has inspired several impressive and mind-bending cosplay, including one that perfectly captures Makima’s menacing energy and another that sees Aki face off against none other than the titular character from Netflix’s Wednesday. Moreover, a piece of mash-up fan art gives characters like Power and Denji Sailor Moon-inspired makeovers.
The Chainsaw Man manga is distributed in North America by VIZ Media.
