Chainsaw Man Creates Hypnotizing Makima Eyes TikTok Filter

Chainsaw Man fans can transform into a real-life Makima, sans the terrifying powers, with a simple TikTok filter. Now all fans need is a good dog who will answer with a “yes” or “woof.”

As uploaded by the official Chainsaw Man TikTok account, voice actor Tomori Kusunoki, who portrayed Makima in the anime, demonstrated how she can bring the character to life using her voice and look the part too. Using a Chainsaw Man filter on her face to give her a pair of hypnotizing spiral eyes, Kusonoki sits perfectly still with her hands folded in her lap — a misleading picture of innocuousness. TOOBOE, who sang “tablet,” one of the ending songs of Chainsaw Man, stands in the background and stares at Kusonoki before quickly looking away and even closing his eyes. However, he’s unable to resist the allure of Makima’s eyes, for he opens them again at the end.

Makima’s Gentle Cruelty

With her soft-spoken and gentle voice, Makima appears every bit as the concerned mother-like figure in the anime. There’s something hypnotizing about her voice and her appearance that makes people unconsciously fall under her spell. However, it’s clear from the onset that this isn’t someone anyone should underestimate. Although it’s not yet clear which Devil Makima has a contract with, her contract allows her to kill from a distance just by forming symbols using her hands. However, Makima’s doesn’t restrict her cruelty to her enemies — it applies to her colleagues at the Public Safety Division.

Kusonoki began pursuing voice acting during junior high school, largely due to voice actor Kana Hanazawa’s portrayal of Kobato Hanato in Kobato. Her first main role was in the mobile game Kirara Fantasia where she played the titular protagonist. In anime, she debuted as the voice of a middle school girl in Eromanga Sensei. She later portrayed Llenn in the 2018 series Sword Art Online Alternative Gun Gale Online, Melida Angel in the 2019 series Assassins Pride. In 2020, she portrayed Setsuna Yuki in Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club, but will retire her activities as this character on March 31, 2023, due to her health. The voice actor was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome in September 2021. In 2023, she will portray Annette in Spy Classroom and Lieselotte Riefenstahl in Endo and Kobayashi Live! The Latest on Tsundere Villainess Lieselotte.

Chainsaw Man, written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto, debuted in Weekly Shōnen Jump in December 2018. The second part of the manga, which follows a new protagonist named Asa Mitaka, moved to Shōnen Jump+ in July 2022 after taking an 18-month-long hiatus. The series revolves around 16-year-old Denji, who dreams of achieving the simple things in life, like sleeping with a roof over his head, eating a good meal and having a girlfriend. Initially, Denji thought all he wanted was to grope a girl’s chest, but after doing so, courtesy of Power, he realized it wasn’t quite as mind-blowing as he thought it would be. His conversation with Makima and subsequent chest-groping made him realize he truly craved emotional intimacy. His potential romance with Makima will have to wait until he catches the Gun Devil.

Produced by MAPPA, all episodes of Chainsaw Man are available to watch on Crunchyroll.
