Cha Eunwoo, Han Sohee Shine in BTS Look at The Villainess Is a Marionette

The promotional trailers for The Villainess Is a Marionette may have ended, but fans can still enjoy the behind-the-scenes video showcasing how everything came together.

Posted on Kakao Page’s YouTube channel, the video focuses on the process behind filming the trailers that featured each of the three main characters. K-Pop boy band ASTRO’s Cha Eunwoo, who portrays Raffaello Kidrey, maintains the cold veneer that the duke often wears in the webcomic but doesn’t hold the facade for very long before he breaks into a smile. Han Sohee, the actor portraying the “villainess” Kayena Hill, effortlessly switches between coolly impassive looks to showing more of a silly side to her. Lee Soohyuk, who acts as Regef Hill, displays his charming and relaxed personality but immediately evokes a supremely arrogant air as soon as the cameras are on him.

Kakao Page released a series of three dramatized character trailers and one full trailer to promote the webcomic The Villainess Is a Marionette, with the first one, featuring the deal struck between Raffaello and Kayena, released on Oct. 6. The second one spotlighted Regef’s spiral into darkness as his obsession over controlling his sister grew. The third trailer focused on Kayena and her determination to break free from her brother’s clutches and finally live her life the way she wanted to. The final trailer combines the previous trailers with some new scenes for transitions.

The Villainess Is a Marionette Began as a Web Novel

Originally a web novel written by Han Yi Rim, a webcomic adaptation, with art by manggle, began in February 2021 on Kakao. The story revolves around a woman who transmigrates into the novel she’s writing after someone kills her. Instead of transmigrating into the character with a happy ending, she finds herself inhabiting the body of the villainess Kayena Hill who meets her untimely demise. The woman finds herself sympathizing with Kayena: both of them died young, and both of them never had the chance to experience what true freedom is. But now that Kayena has a second chance to rewrite her ending, she isn’t about to squander it.

The Villainess Is a Marionette has over 30 million readers on Kakao Page. On the English platform, the webcomic has close to 4 million views and currently has 65 chapters. Since its publication, the trailers have garnered excitement from fans of all three actors with many calling for a full live-action adaptation of the webcomic.

The trailers are available to watch on Kakao Page’s YouTube channel. Although there are currently no plans for a live-action drama adaptation of the webcomic, fans can sate their hunger by reading The Villainess Is a Marionette on Tapas.
