The fourth season of Bungo Stray Dogs dropped an exhilarating new trailer that includes a sneak preview of the opening theme song and a premiere date reveal.

The trailer introduces a slew of new characters including Sigma, one of the members of the terrorist organization Decay of the Angel. Fans can also catch a snippet of the opening song “TRUE STORY” by SCREEN mode, who also performed the opening theme for the second season of the series. Singing the ending song “Shirushi” is Luck Life, who performed several of the ending theme songs for Bungo Stray Dogs. The season promises intense action sequences wherein each member of the agency appears to be fighting their own battles.

A previous trailer introduced fans to the Hunting Dogs, a police military unit on the hunt for the Armed Detective Agency, believing them to be terrorists. Not only is the Armed Detective Agency now on the run from the Hunting Dogs, but they also have to track down the organization that framed them, Decay of the Angel — filled with members who boast powerful and threatening abilities. Aside from the new characters, fans can also catch a glimpse of returning characters such as Fyodor Dostoevsky, Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald and Port Mafia members.

Written by Kafka Asagiri and illustrated by Sango Harukawa, Bungo Stray Dogs began serializing in Kadokawa Shoten’s seinen magazine Young Ace in 2012. The series follows Atsushi Nakajima, an orphan with the supernatural power to turn into a large white tiger. Atsushi joins the Armed Detective Agency in the hopes of finding his purpose for living. Made up of people who also have different supernatural abilities, the Agency spends most of its time solving mysteries and carrying out missions. Each character in Bungo Stray Dogs is named after famous late writers and poets, including Western influences like Edgar Allan Poe.

Produced by Bones, the first two seasons of the anime adaptation aired in 2016 with Season 3 airing three years later. The anime film Bungo Stray Dogs: Dead Apple premiered in 2018 and won the Theatrical Film Award from Newtype, with many praising the film’s visuals.

Season 4 of Bungo Stray Dogs will debut on Jan. 4, 2023, on Crunchyroll.
