A cosplayer brings Nijika Ijichi, the spirited drummer from Bocchi the Rock!, to life with a fantastic outfit.
Suzura, who also goes by her Twitter handle suzuran_ro, transformed herself into the peppy second-year student of the Kessoku Band but didn’t limit herself to only cosplaying as Nijika. She created convincing costumes of every member of the Kessoku Band: bass player Ryo Yamada, guitarist and vocalist Ikuyo Kita, and lead guitarist Hitori Gotou.
Although Bocchi the Rock! premiered in October 2022, the seinen anime became a sleeper hit amongst enthusiasts of the genre. The show beat out Chainsaw Man as the most popular currently airing anime on My Anime List. An album release of the fictional all-girls band outranked real-life K-Pop boy band, Stray Kids, for the number one spot on Billboard Japan.
Inspiring Fans With Bocchi the Rock!
Among the many fan creations Bocchi the Rock! has inspired, one fan-made video combined the series with the opening theme song from Cyberpunk Edgerunners, effectively mashing up the two series despite their very different tones and stories. Beyond its many fans, the musical anime has also prompted established manga and anime creators to share their own crossovers. Shun Saeki, the illustrator behind Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma, drew Hitori playing the guitar in her band’s T-shirt to celebrate the anime’s season finale.
Bocchi the Rock is a slice-of-life comedy that aired from Oct 9, 2022, to Dec. 25, 2022. The 12-episode anime follows Hitori as she fights her social anxieties to make friends and perform live with a rock-and-roll band. Her faithful day finally arrives when Nijika asks Hitori to join Kessoku Band after Ikuyo fled their first show out of embarrassment for lying about her guitar-playing skills. However, Ikuyo learns how to play the guitar thanks to Hitori’s help. The Bocchi the Rock home media release in Japan will consist of six volumes and be available on Blu-ray and DVD. A preview of the cover art for Volume 2 was recently released.
At the time of writing, it’s currently unknown whether a second season of Bocchi the Rock! is in development. Season 1 is available to stream via Crunchyroll Premium.
