Blue Lock would be at the height of Super Bowl hype if they had a half-time show with Bachira as the star.
Alas, soccer is not America’s favorite sport and does not have a half-time show like football, but a Blue Lock fan has taken it upon themselves to fix that problem. joon (@/chrysellias) Blue Lock-ed the famous SAKURA School Simulator meme. Instead of the cat, Bachira is busting some killer breakdancing moves for his friend while Isagi looks on, completely stock-still. Bachira’s eyes have swirls, indicating he’s activating his monster mode during his dance routine. As his back is to the camera, it’s impossible to say what kind of expression Isagi wears on his face.
Blue Lock’s Bachira is a Soccer Monster
In Blue Lock, Bachira is a talented forward known for his spectacular dribbling skills that allow him to maneuver the ball between his opponents. Initially, he wanted to find soccer rivals who had the same “monster” inside them as he has inside him, but that goal has since evolved into aiming to be the best striker in the world. When he isn’t playing soccer, he’s usually sleeping. The mangaka revealed legendary retired Brazilian player Ronaldinho inspired the conceptualization of Bachira.
Blue Lock saw a huge surge in popularity at the World Cup in Qatar. Japan’s national team shocked their nation and the world with their stellar performance, defeating Germany’s four-time champion team after coming up from behind in the second half. Japan won against Spain, their achievement granting them advancement to the Round of 16. Numerous anime fans flooded Twitter after the two matches, claiming “the power of anime [was] by their side,” and even Nomura congratulated the team with new illustrations of Isagi. While Japan ultimately lost to Croatia in the Round of 16, many still commended the team for their hard work.
Written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura, Blue Lock began serialization in Weekly Shōnen Magazine in August 2018 and currently has 22 tankōbon volumes as of December 2022. The series won in the shōnen category at the 45th Kodansha Manga Awards. Adapted into an anime by Eight Bit, Blue Lock’s first cour aired in October 2022 with Kazuki Ura voicing Isagi and Tasuku Kaito portraying Bachira.
