Bleach Kon’s Original Actor Expresses Gratitude Over TYBW Return

Quinton Flynn, the voice actor behind Bleach’s Kon, thanks anime fans for celebrating the comedic stuffed animal’s appearance in Thousand-Year Blood War.

In a post on his official Twitter account, the actor positively acknowledged fans’ “touching remarks about the return of Kon.” He wrote, “such a blessing to be back on this journey with you. We’re having so much fun with Ichigo, one and all.”

Numerous Familiar Voices Returned for Thousand-Year Blood War

Flynn isn’t the only member of the original Bleach anime’s English voice cast to return for the sequel series. Most notably, Johnny Yong Bosch (Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans) and Michelle Ruff (Sword Art Online: Alicization – War of Underworld) once again star as Ichigo Kurosaki and Rukia Kuchiki, respectively. Doug Erholtz (Gundam Build Divers), Derek Stephen Prince (Beyblade Burst Turbo) and Kate Higgins (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion) have also reprised their iconic roles.

However, Jamieson Price, who played Yasutora Sado (aka Chad) in the first anime, turned down the opportunity to reprise his role in Thousand-Year Blood War. Taking to Twitter, he explained that “access to opportunity in Anime has not been equal. But that has changed. By stepping aside now I open the door of Access and give opportunity to an actor who can represent Yasutora Sado with the same love and pride and imagination but with more life experience than I have.” He also wished Chad’s new voice actor, Alain Mesa (Great Pretender), good luck in the role.

Bleach fans aren’t only expressing their excitement for Thousand-Year Blood War by celebrating the voice actors who bring their favorite characters to life; they are also creating a wealth of impressive cosplay. Recently, costume-maker extraordinaire Izanamitan posted images of their haunting and bloody take on Retsu Unohana, the former captain of the Gotei 13’s Fourth Division, and Dima_Batalov perfectly captured the style and attitude of Yoruichi in their recreation of the Goddess of Flash.

Thousand-Year Blood War adapts the story arc of the same name from Tite Kubo’s best-selling manga series. The story sees the Soul Society facing off against the Wandenreich, a secret Quincy empire, in a brutal and deadly conflict. While the narrative features and spotlights many fan-favorite characters, like Kon and Ichigo, it also introduces many new faces, like the nefarious Yhwach and the enigmatic members of the Zero Division.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War premiered back in October, and it is available to stream exclusively on Hulu alongside the original Bleach anime series.
