TREASURE has joined the soundtrack of Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King.
As reported by Anime Senpai, Studio Pierrot unveiled a new trailer for the upcoming film at Jump Festa 2023. The 30-second teaser features the theme song “Here I Stand” by the 10-member South Korean band TREASURE. The group previously performed the song “Beautiful” as the 13th ending theme for Black Clover. In addition to details surrounding the soundtrack, Studio Pierrot also introduced the four previous Wizard Kings as the film’s characters.
Introducing the Four Wizard Kings
The trailer presented the former Wizard King Conrad Leto, a mage named Jester Galandros, the 11th Wizard King Princia and the 20th Wizard King Edward Abarlashe. As for the cast, Hunter x Hunter’s Miyuki Sawashiro voices Princia, Naruto’s Houchuu Ootsuka voices Edward, Bleach’s Toshihiko Seki plays Conrad and Kamen Rider’s Fumiya Takahashi stars as Jester Galandros. Production crew set to return for the upcoming film include Ayataka Tanemura as the director, Itsuko Takeda as the character designer and Minako Seki as the composer.
On Oct. 6, Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King received an official release date. While the film adapts Yuki Tabata’s eponymous manga, its plot is separate from the series’ events. Announced in March 2021, Sword of the Wizard King will premiere on the same date as the last time viewers saw a new episode from the Black Clover anime over two years ago.
Black Clover Breaks the Mold for Premiere Dates
Unlike the usual release schedules for anime films, Sword of the Wizard King will premiere in Japan and the United States simultaneously. Typically, anime films premiering in Japan don’t make it outside the country for months after their initial release date. For example, Japanese viewers could watch One Piece Film: Red on Aug. 6, but Western audiences could not see the film until Nov. 3.
In February 2015, Tabata’s Black Clover manga began serialization in Weekly Shōnen Jump. As of May 2021, over 15 million copies of the best-selling manga are in circulation. On Nov. 13, the author took a two-week break after experiencing a “sudden illness.” The manga previously went on a three-month hiatus in April for Tabata to plan the story accordingly.
Black Clover focuses on the journey of a young orphan named Asta who lives in a magical world. Despite not having powers of his own, Asta is determined to become the next Wizard King. Throughout his adventures, he develops a rivalry with fellow orphan Yuno, who possesses the ability to control the wind.
Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King will premiere worldwide on Netflix on March 31, 2023, and open in Japanese theaters on the same day. The original anime series is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
