Guts never gets a good night of sleep, but fans of Berserk certainly can with this cuddly version of his iconic sword.
The massive weapon has been brought into the real world in the form of a 2-meter-long body pillow, as reported by Sportskeeda. This giant bedside companion depicts the massive hilt and blade of the iconic sword wielded by the Berserk protagonist. It also came with a tweet letting possible consumers know that they can grab one of their own on the Prime1 website. The post also alleges that the item had previously been out of stock, implying that the sales have been successful so far.
Fans Go Berserk Over the Dragonslayer Pillow
Dragonslayer is a massive blade often described in Berserk, the epic dark fantasy manga by Kentaro Miura, as “like a heap of raw iron.” The article also compiled a collection of reactions from avid Berserk fans who were blown away by the pillow. One Twitter user commented on the item by paraphrasing the famous passage quoted above, stating, “puffy, fluffy and far too mushy. Indeed, it was like a soft cloud.” Another showed a panel from the manga with Guts sleeping close to the sword, and one featured the popular “shut up and take my money” gif from Futurama.
The skilled blacksmith Godot crafted the monstrous blade after a local sovereign King called upon all artisans to try and produce a sword capable of killing a dragon. While most would call it unwieldable, it acts as the perfect death dealer for Guts, who specializes in swords that are far too big for him. The blade became the damaged protagonist’s signature weapon after he survived the dreaded “Eclipse,” a terrible event that some Legend of Zelda fans recently recreated in Tears of the Kingdom.
Body pillows are a somewhat infamous part of the animanga industry with a poor reputation thanks to their often illicit use. Many consider them a facet of fan-service thanks to the common trend of turning popular anime “waifus” into bedside companions. While not all follow down this road, like the Dragonslayer pillow, it is still a consistent part of anime merchandising.
The Berserk series has been running since 1989, but was tragically faced with an abrupt end after the author, Kentaro Miura, passed away in 2021. However, the series has resumed publication under the direction of Miura’s friend Kouji Mori. The next chapter, 373, will be released on May 26, 2023.
