The following contains spoilers for Episode 11 of Beast Tamer, available for streaming on Crunchyroll with English subtitles.
In an unexpected turn of events, Rein’s past has come back to haunt him in the latest episode of Beast Tamer. Earlier in the season, Rein opened up to his party about the events that still haunt him to this day: the destruction of his home village and family. Rein’s unnamed village of beast tamers was wiped out by monsters when he was still a child, becoming the catalyst for his wanting to help others.
Flashbacks to this event have been shown several times throughout the season, usually as Rein remembers the trauma from that day as a reminder to keep moving forward, but the events of the past have now invaded the present day and are currently staring Rein and his party in the face.
Rein’s Greatest Triumph Turned into His Greatest Enemy
Lord Edgar Fromware, the current major antagonist in the story, is thoroughly defeated by Rein and his party after they raid his compound. In a last-ditch effort, Edgar dons a ring given to him by Arios, Rein’s former party leader out for blood, hoping to use the evil magics within to destroy Rein once and for all. Unfortunately for him, Rein is immune to all negative magical effects — something everyone learns at the exact same time.
A spectral reaper appears to kill Rein instantly with powerful death magic, only for it to have no effect whatsoever. Rein’s bond with Sora and Luna turns out to be the cause of this, as the magic of the fairy race affords them the same protection against negative magics. Stricken with rage and disbelief, the magics of the ring latch onto Edgar, summoning the demon imprisoned within and transforming his body as a result.
Rein’s Bonds and Abilities Will Be Tested in This Ultimate Battle
With all the insane power-ups Rein has received over the course of his journey, there’s no question that he’ll need to pull out all the tricks he has to defeat the demon that’s appeared. Given the fact that Rein’s similarly overpowered companions are also present, it could end up being a one-sided beat down with the power of friendship, but that wouldn’t be nearly as interesting in a narrative sense.
Often in the direst situations for Rein, he falls back on his abilities as a beast tamer to outsmart his opponent, usually by utilizing the local wildlife, but that doesn’t seem like it will be an option here. Most likely, the demon will defeat most of the party minus Rein, with new girl Nina somehow assisting him in defeating the new foe. It’ll be another week until fans see how the battle plays out, but given the overall tone of Beast Tamer, it will almost certainly have a happy ending.
