A new trailer has dropped for the second season of Netflix’s Bastard!! -Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy-.
The trailer, which is available on the official Netflix Anime YouTube channel, indicates that Bastard!! Season 2 and feature a myriad of intense action and heart-pounding music. The clips provide viewers with some insight into what the story has in store, including a showdown between the sorcerer shoguns and the samurai corps. Moreover, it teases the potential resurrection of the God of Destruction.

Mangaka Kazushi Hagiwara took substantial inspiration from heavy metal music and the classic tabletop role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons when he created Bastard!!. The first chapter appeared in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump in 1988, and the ongoing series moved to Ultra Jump in 2000, where it has been infrequently serialized ever since; the most recent chapter was published back in 2010. Despite the long-running hiatus, Bastard!! remains one of Shueisha’s most successful series, and alongside Tadatoshi Fujimaki’s Kuroko’s Basketball and Natsuki Takaya’s Fruits Basket, it stands as one of the best-selling manga of all time with over 30 million copies in circulation globally.
Netflix and Liden Films’ adaptation of Hagiwara’s story isn’t the first; in 1992, AIC created a short six-episode original video animation (OVA) version of Bastard!!. Takaharu Ozaki (Ace Attorney) serves as the new show’s director, with Yōsuke Kuroda (My Hero Academia) overseeing the series composition and Mai Hasegawa (Bluelock) handling the editing. Composer Yasuharu Takanashi (Fairy Tail) oversees Bastard!!’s heavy metal-influenced soundtrack. Kishō Taniyama (Attack on Titan) and Tomori Kusunoki (Chainsaw Man) have returned as Dark Schnieder and Tia Noto Yoko for Season 2. The lead voice actors for the English dub of the series have not been confirmed at the time of writing.

Set in a fantastical world that is trying to recover from a devastating cataclysm, Bastard!! follows Tia Noto Yoko, the daughter of a high priest, who resurrects the powerful wizard Dark Schneider. The hope is that he will use his immense power to protect the Kingdom of Metallicana from the Dark Rebel Army. However, the narrative eventually reveals connections between Dark Schneider and the cataclysmic event that destroyed the Old World.
VIZ Media distributes Hagiwara’s manga in North America and the first season of Bastard!! -Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy- is available to stream in its entirety on Netflix. The trailer confirms that Season 2 will debut on the platform on July 31.
