More details are starting to trickle in from Avatar Studios’ upcoming feature film centered on the adult team from Avatar: The Last Airbender. The most recent reports suggest the movie will take place over a decade after the events of Nickelodeon’s hit show.
According to scooper DanielRPK, as reported by Avatar News, the currently untitled film will take place precisely 12 years after the show. Additionally, the film will focus more heavily on Aang and Katara, while Sokka, Toph and Zuko play supporting roles. When it comes to the character’s ages, Avatar News specified, “Aang will be 24, Katara will be 26… Sokka will be 27… Toph will be 24, Zuko will be 28.”
The title of the upcoming film is currently unknown, with no official word from either Avatar Studios, Nickelodeon or Paramount. Recent reports suggest the upcoming film may be titled Echoes and Aftershocks or Hidden Kingdom. The former was seemingly revealed by Paramount Animation production accountant Jen Klatt, who listed the title on social media. The latter was reported by Avatar News.

It has also been reported that actor Dante Basco will reprise his role as the formerly exiled prince Zuko, though the actor himself has not provided any confirmation. Zuko has appeared in related media, such as The Legend of Korra, though he was voiced by Bruce Davison. Basco last voiced Zuko in Avatar: The Last Airbender. Overall, details concerning the upcoming film are scarce, especially when it comes to plot and cast details.
What audiences do know is that the film will be animated by Flying Bark Productions, which is the same team that animated several episodes of Disney+’s What If…? anthology series. Furthermore, it was recently reported the film is being written by Star Trek: Discovery and House of Cards writer Kenneth Lin. In addition, it is currently believed that the many projects currently in development at Avatar Studios, including the film, will not hit screens until at least 2024.
