Whether they’re a reluctant hero or a knightly do-gooder, there’s nothing better than a hero who has both bravery and dashing good looks. Beauty doesn’t always come with virtue, but some anime heroes have it all. Some have a brawny frame and conventional beauty while others have a more dancer-like build, or atypical features. Beauty comes in all forms.
Heroes who have a strong moral compass, and are also fit to model a Renaissance painting will always stand out from the rest of the anime pantheon. For some heroes, their looks are something they ignore or may even be bashful about. Regardless, they will always draw more attention and gain more fans.
10 Roy Mustang (Fullmetal Alchemist)
At first, Roy Mustang doesn’t come off as much of an admirable hero in Fullmetal Alchemist. But just because a hero is flawed, and perhaps not always likable, doesn’t mean they’re not an ultimately good person.
By his late 20s, Roy Mustang has established himself as a military hero and caring leader to his troops. He may play at being feckless, but he’s always thinking ahead. He’s strong, clean-shaven, and handsome with hair he wears in an elegantly disheveled style. While his looks tend to break up marriages, he’s a devoted commander.
9 Hak (Yona Of The Dawn)
Yona may hesitate to point out how pretty and swashbuckling her guard is, but Yona of the Dawn fans have no problem singing Hak’s praises. Hak is thoughtful and brave to the point where his reputation alone as the Thunder Beast frightens opponents – and rightfully so.
Though he’s beautiful and flirtatious, by far the most attractive part of Hak’s personality is his loyalty and devotion to his princess. He’s head over heels for her, but that doesn’t stop him from bickering with her when he disagrees with her, and it doesn’t keep him from waiting patiently for her to figure out her own tangled feelings.
8 Koga (InuYasha)
While the dog yokai protagonist, InuYasha is no doubt a fan-favorite both for his looks and tsundere nature, there’s no denying Koga’s wolfish charm. Koga brings some much-needed competition to the cursed love triangle between Kagome, Inuyasha, and Kikyo.
Koga cares about his wolf pack, and he knows exactly what he wants in a life partner. He admires Kagome for her bravery and loyalty. Not only is he gorgeous in a wild sort of way, he’s direct (if perhaps a bit too direct, sometimes) and knows his own mind.
7 Claude Jean Ellmeyer (I’m The Villainess, So I’m Taming The Final Boss)
Though the demon lord Claude has a reputation for being scary, he establishes himself as a do-gooder from the moment he meets Aileen in I’m the Villainess, So I’m Taming the Final Boss. He may be the “final boss” of the otome game, but he’s much more princely in nature than his depraved brother, Cedric.
Claude has tender feelings, though he tries to hide them, and he’s very good at sensing Aileen’s feelings and motivations, too. He aligns his allegiance and his heart with her practically from the start and doesn’t hesitate to sweep her off her feet and onto the dance floor when the occasion calls for it. He’s the perfect dark prince for her to fall in love with.
6 Spike Spiegel (Cowboy Bebop)
Spike Spiegel is the ultimate reluctant hero in Cowboy Bebop. Few can pull off a loose-limbed, devil-may-care swagger like Spike does as he lights a nonchalant cigarette and victoriously trips his way through one gunfight after another. He nearly always wears the same outfit but his suit and high collar points suit him so well that the outfit-repeats don’t really matter.
Spike is the perfect bad boy with a heart of gold. He messes up often, but he always finesses his way out of a tricky situation. His skill in martial arts paired with his clumsiness makes him an affable hero instead of an over-powered one.
5 Prince Endymion (Sailor Moon)
Prince Endymion is the noble prince of Earth whose good looks and genteel nature captured the heart of the Moon Princess practically from the moment she first met him in Sailor Moon. Even in his next life as Mamoru Chiba, his good looks and regal bearing earned him a living as a model (which he stated in the episode, “Shutter Bugged”).
Though he’s handsome enough to send several hearts beating, Endymion doesn’t really care for the attention. He gets embarrassed when Usagi and Rei swoon and bicker over him, and it takes time for him to warm up to Usagi, building a genuine romantic bond with her.
4 Levi Ackerman (Attack On Titan)
Not only is Attack On Titan’s Levi a stellar warrior, he’s an inspiring leader. Levi is the strong and silent type with patrician good looks; it’s no surprise that fans are so taken with him.
Whenever Levi does speak, he brings courage and wisdom to his comrades when they need it most. He’s the kind of hero that is strong and stoic but doesn’t hesitate to be brutal because he cannot afford to be soft, and hesitation would mean the difference between life and death. Despite all that, he tries his best to be noble.
3 Alucard (Castlevania)
Alucard inherited the best parts of his parents in Castlevania. He inherited his regal bearing and vampiric power from his father, and his human mother gave him his fine features and kind heart. Alucard doesn’t wear that kind heart on his sleeve all the time – he can be rather standoffish. But he always does what’s right, even if it means fighting his own father.
Though he’s burdened with a tragic family history and the loneliness of immortality, Alucard looks as if he stepped out of the pages of a storybook. He’s called the Sleeping Soldier, but “Sleeping Beauty” would also be a fitting moniker.
2 Yukimaru Sanada (Fena: Pirate Princess)
Yukimaru is fierce, silent, and protective in Fena: Pirate Princess. Though he cares deeply for Fena above all others, he can be harsh with her, which makes his rare vulnerable moments with her all the more poignant. It’s totally understandable that Fena would be brought to her knees when he stares deeply into her eyes and pledges his hand to hers in loyalty.
Even though Yukimaru is a stalwart warrior and protector, he knows when he needs to be soft. Though those moments are so intense that poor Fena can barely keep her composure, who could blame her.
1 Prince Ashitaka (Princess 70zl6d8″ title=”mononoke”>Mononoke)
Princess 70zl6d8″ title=”mononoke”>Mononoke has one of the most noble, handsome, and self-contained princes in all anime. From the beginning, Prince Ashitaka inherits a curse he didn’t earn but wishes to learn how to master it. He wants to learn how to not give in to hate. It takes a rare man to see through a person’s rage to what lies beneath.
When San threatens Ashitaka with a knife, he calls her beautiful. When she tries to stab him, he hugs her. San has good reason for attacking humans, and Ashitaka has good reason for trying to bridge the gap between her and humanity. The Irontown ladies admire Ashitaka’s pretty boy looks, but they’re nothing compared to his wonderful heart.
