The Jacksonville Jaguars clinched their second-ever AFC South championship with the help of Attack on Titan.

In preparation for their crucial January 7 game against the Tennessee Titans, the Jaguars’ social media team released a promotional image riffing on the iconic Attack on Titan Season 1 poster. Captioned with Erwin Smith’s iconic line, “Dedicate your hearts,” the image depicts Titans running back Derrick Henry in place of the Colossus Titan, reaching over the wall of the Jaguars’ TIAA Bank Field Stadium. Jaguars running back Trevor Lawrence stands in place of Attack on Titan protagonist Eren Yeager, surrounded by teal flames that reference the Florida team’s colors.

The Jacksonville Jaguars Dedicated Their Hearts to a Win

The Jaguars went on to win the game by a score of 20-16, earning them the American Football Conference South division title and punching their ticket to the NFL’s post-season playoffs. The Florida team’s year got off to a rocky start, leaving them with a win-loss record of 3-7, well behind that of the 6-3 Tennessee Titans, but they managed to turn things around with inspiration from one of the most exciting anime series set to drop in 2023. The highly anticipated Attack on Titan: The Final Season part three is due to release sometime this year, bringing the hit adaptation of Hajime Isayama’s manga to a close after nearly a decade on air.

The remaining episodes will cover the manga’s controversial conclusion, which received backlash from fans that led Isayama to publicly apologize for what he labeled a “struggle” to end the series. The manga artist released a secondary ending that continued past the initial finale but has since stated that he currently has no plans to write another series to follow up Attack on Titan. This means MAPPA’s The Final Season Part 3 could be the last addition to the Attack on Titan media canon, and the studio is making the most of that opportunity with special events and promotional artwork to build anticipation for the beloved series’ swan song.

While Attack on Titan may be ending this year, you can continue to catch the titan-slaying Jacksonville Jaguars in action during the NFL playoffs, which kick off on January 14. For the sports-averse otaku out there, the first three seasons of Attack on Titan and the first two parts of The Final Season are available to stream on Crunchyroll.
