Pokémon voice actor Sarah Natochenny has joined Season 2 of Tokyo Revengers.
Natochenny, the English dub voice of Ash Ketchum, announced her casting in Tokyo Revengers Season 2 as Yuzuha, the younger sister of Taiju and the older sister of Hakkai Shiba. “Using my natural voice in an anime is totally unreal,” she wrote on Twitter. In 2006, Natochenny replaced Veronica Taylor in the anime’s ninth season as the voice of Pokémon’s former protagonist. Tokyo Revengers marks one of the actor’s few voice-acting roles in the anime industry. Besides Pokémon, Natochenny voiced Aura Sentia in Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V.
Weekly Shōnen Magazine serialized Ken Wakui’s Tokyo Revengers manga from March 2017 to November 2022, complete with 31 tankōbon volumes. As of December 2022, the manga had over 70 million copies in circulation. In 2021, Liden Films ordered an anime series adaptation, which premiered its second season in January 2023. Additionally, the franchise received a live-action film, with another planned to release sometime in 2023.
Tokyo Revengers follows 26-year-old unemployed Takemichi Hanagaki, who discovers the murders of his middle school ex-girlfriend, Hinata Tachibana, and her younger brother, Naoto, at the hands of the Tokyo Manji Gang. After being pushed in front of a train, Takemichi travels back to 2005 and attempts to warn Hinata’s brother of their eventual death date. When Naoto and Takemichi shake hands, the protagonist returns to the present day.
The End of Ash’s Pokémon Journey
In December 2022, The Pokémon Company announced the retirement of Ash and Pikachu after serving as the anime’s mascots for the past 25 seasons. Many fans speculated the end of the boy from Pallet Town’s adventures after the trainer bested Leon at the Masters Eight Tournament of the Pokémon World Coronation Series to achieve the hard-earned title of World Champion. The anime will wrap up Ash and Pikachu’s storyline across 11 episodes of Pokémon: Aim to Be a Pokémon Master. The conclusion of the dynamic duo’s story will feature many familiar faces, including Brock, Misty and Cilan.
In response to Ash’s monumental victory against Leon, Natochenny celebrated the massive milestone with a touching sentiment. “No matter what lies beyond his final chapter, he’ll live forever in the hearts of many generations to come,” she wrote. Tokyo’s Shibuya Ward streamed the emotional episode to the public, which the voice actor wished she could have attended. After Ash and Pikachu, the anime will transition to two protagonists, Riko and Roy, in the Paldean region.
Season 2 of Tokyo Revengers is available to stream on Hulu. The upcoming untitled Pokémon anime will begin to air episodes on TV Tokyo on April 14.
