The story of Artifact Reading Appraiser follows the life of Hae Jin. Hae Jin’s father was an antique dealer, while his grandfather was a renowned archeologist and also a pro-Japanese who betrayed his own nation.
Even after their nation gained independence, Hae Jin’s grandfather made a fortune by secretly selling national artifacts. Upon learning that fact, Hae Jin’s father was ashamed and decided to dedicate his whole life to repaying that sin.
Shortly after Hae Jin’s grandfather passed away, Hae Jin’s father went around the world in order to recover the cultural assets that Hae Jin’s grandfather sold off and the other assets that were smuggled out of the country.
Everything he found was donated to the State for free. In return, Hae Jin’s father lost all the wealth he had. But Hae Jin’s father did not stop there. Even after losing everything he had, even after Hae Jin’s mother died, and even after his health started declining, Hae Jin’s father was immersed in his mission.
For a long time, Hae Jin could not understand his father at all. He could not help but resent his dad. Hae Jin has been the sole breadwinner of the family since he was a kid, and because of it, he also had to give up on going to college.
However, it does not matter anymore. If only Hae Jin’s father could come back and be with his family again, he would be ready to do anything and everything in his power and might.
Previously on Artifact Reading Appraiser Chapter 12: Recap
In the previous chapter of Artifact Reading Appraiser, that is, Chapter 12, we saw that five years ago at the Ubich Art Museum, Hae Jin and his father had helped an old lady, and she had invited them to her house. The old lady had a collection of her own in her house.
Looking back, it truly was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for Hae Jin and his dad. They were both shocked when they found out that the old lady was from a historic aristocratic family in Florence.
Considering the high probability that the “genuine” Hae Jin and his dad saw was hanging over there, it was obvious what the painting in front of them was. But the family’s lady was not interested in listening and wanted to believe it was a true piece.
However, the owner did not mind Hae Jin being an appraiser for 1% of the original price. But he made it clear to Hae Jin that if he was speaking nonsense and if he could not prove his point, he would have to undergo serious consequences.
Hae Jin begins to tell his audience how and why that “genuine” art piece was fake. With a strong historical background and with a lot of confidence, he manages to impress the owner. Quite impressed, the owner agrees to pay Hae Jin his share by the end of the day. He also asks if Hae Jin can help him out with something.
