15 Fruits Basket

Fruits Basket is a juggernaut in shojo anime. The series follows the kind protagonist Tohru Honda. She lived in a tent because her parents died, but Shigure and Yuki Soma took her in after a typhoon destroyed it. She learns that a few clan members are afflicted by the Zodiac curse, meaning they turn into animals when hugged by the opposite sex. This has caused a surprising amount of turmoil in their personal lives.

Tohru has such a healing presence in the show that many zodiac members view her as the safe space they never had as children. It’s hard not to get attached to the characters in Fruits Basket. Even a few of the most villainous characters had touching redemption arcs.

14 The Way Of The Househusband

The Way Of The Househusband is a cozy slapstick comedy about Tatsu, an ex-yakuza boss turned stay-at-home husband. He may have abandoned a life of crime, but old habits die hard. He’s trying his best, but he still applies gang logic to basic housework like cooking delicious meals and buying presents for his wife.

The Way Of The Husband shoots off its punchlines rapidly, so the audience barely has a chance to stop laughing at the last joke before the next one hits. The hilarious contrast between the Yakuza violence and Tatsu’s wholesomeness will charm the fans immediately.

Subaru Mikazuki is a 23-year-old writer who is too introverted for his own good. After he adopts Haru, a Tuxedo cat with a big personality, he slowly and steadily leaves his own cocoon, starting to enjoy life. My Roommate Is a Cat follows their uncommon friendship.

Loid Forger has to infiltrate an elite school and get close to Donovan Desmond. If the mission fails, a war will break out. To complete his mission, he must form a makeshift family. He starts by adopting Anya, a young telepath. Then, he marries Yor, a secret assassin. Since Anya can read minds, she knows about her adoptive parents’ real jobs, but neither of them will tell the other.

Spy X Family was an instant fan favorite after its Spring 2022 debut. It’s a hilarious comedy anime that’s already a modern classic. It has a unique and unexpectedly wholesome premise that fans were immediately interested in. Top that with a lovable cast of characters, and avid anime watchers fell head over heels for the series.

11 Komi Can’t Communicate

Shoko Komi is a stunning teenage girl. All of her classmates have a crush on her and worship the ground she walks on. Since she never speaks, many think she’s just too good to talk to them. However, it turns out that she has severe social anxiety. The only person who intuitively understood this was Tadano, who had an entire conversation with her by writing back and forth on a chalkboard.

During this conversation, Komi reveals she wants to make 100 friends. Komi Can’t Communicate is a comedy anime, but it has a very touching message. Blue Period follows Yatora, a former criminal who didn’t know what he wanted to do with his life until he stumbled into his school’s art room. He became entranced by someone else’s painting and decided that he wanted to evoke the same kind of emotions with his art.

Blue Period isn’t afraid to reveal the harsh realities of being an artist. It proves that doing what you love isn’t always easy or fun. It’s an emotional look into the struggles of being an artist and will make the audience feel seen because the characters’ issues are very realistic.

Makoto Kotawa is a teenage witch in training who moves from Yokohama to Hirosaki to keep studying her magic. Flying Witch depicts her daily life as she gets used to her new life with Chito, her familiar. The show is all about Makoto making new friends and showing them her witchcraft.

Flying Witch is mostly a slice-of-life series, but it delves into fantasy too. However, it doesn’t let the stakes get too high. Magic is there in every step of the way, but it doesn’t become a problem for Makoto and Chito. Usagi Drop is a wholesome observation of the realities of fatherhood. Daikichi isn’t perfect, but he does everything possible to raise Rin in a stable, loving environment she would have never otherwise received if she’d stayed with the other family members.

Kiyo in Kyoto tells the story of Kiyo and Sumire, two friends who move to Kyoto to become geisha apprentices. While Sumire excels among other students, Kiyo fails and is expelled. After others notice Kiyo’s talented cooking, she becomes the new cook at the maiko house.

Anime can make viewers want to eat whatever is on the screen and Kiyo in Kyoto isn’t an exception. The show is full of food close-ups that will make the audience’s mouths water. Not only the show is a window into Japan’s gastronomy, but it’s also a beautiful friendship story.

Polar Bear Cafe is a great story about a bunch of animals who always visit a cafe run by a friendly polar bear named Shirokuma. This is a place where animals and humans alike can hang out and relax after a long day at work, even if they’re very different from each other.

Polar Bear Cafe is an unconventional josei, but viewers instantly fell in love with it. Many fans would even love to visit the titular restaurant in real life. The series has a good sense of humor and a lovable cast. Shirokuma is a charismatic barista, Penguin is perpetually sarcastic, and Panda is a fan-favorite klutz.

Tamako Market centers on the life of Tamako Kitashirakawa, a girl whose family runs a mochi sop in Usagiyama Shōtengai. In 12 episodes and one film, this show delves into Tamako’s relationships with her family, friends, and Dera, a funny bird freeloading in Tamako’s home.

An ogre named Oodanna tells Aoi that her grandfather is in debt and that she must pay it off by running a diner at the ogre’s inn.

The best thing about Kakuriyo: Bed and Breakfast for Spirits is the clashing differences between its dual nature. On one hand, it’s all about spirits and mythology, but on the other, it’s as domestic as it gets. This show is a great way to enjoy a different universe without many threats to it.

1 Laid-Back Camp

Laid-Back Camp is peak comfort anime. This series premise is simple, but it makes viewers feel as cozy as ever. It follows Rin and Nadeshiko, two girls who love camping so much, they camp all around Japan together after founding the Outdoor Activities Circle.

Laid-Back Camp is as easygoing as it sounds. It doesn’t get too deep or emotional and it has an adorable vibe in every episode. Even though it’s mostly an outdoor experience, viewers will love to be a part of this adventure from their cozy homes. Surely, they will wish to join the Outdoor Activities Circle from the very first episode.
