One of the most exciting things about anime is how each fictional world has the chance to bend the rules of reality. With this opportunity comes the chance to give characters powers that humans aren’t capable of. Countless abilities have been introduced to the world of anime, such as the My Hero Academia protagonist, Izuku Midoriya’s, inherited One For All and Giorno Giovanna’s Stand, Gold Experience, in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure.
While plenty of creative and breathtaking powers have been written into anime, there are also many that are seen differently. Some are weak in comparison to other abilities in the series they hail from, or just plain strange. However, one of the worst things about the endless list of anime abilities is the fact that some of them are straight-up annoying.
10 Mineta’s Quirk Isn’t The Only Annoying Thing About Him
If there’s one thing that most My Hero Academia fans can agree on it’s that Minoru Mineta is one of the most obnoxious characters in the entire series. His character is responsible for a majority of the fanbase’s cringes. While his character as a whole is commonly disliked, many have come to realize just how ridiculous and obnoxious his quirk is.
Minoru Mineta’s quirk, Pop Off, allows him to remove the orbs from his head. The ball-shaped objects have a strong adhesive that will stick to anything but Mineta himself. The quirk works well in a bind, but is simply annoying to watch, especially considering the character it’s connected to.
9 Warcry’s Tear Magic Makes the Mute Button Viewers’ Best Friend
Hiro Mashima’s Fairy Tail has introduced some of the greatest things in the anime and manga world. Amazing characters, powers, and more have drawn many fans into the story. Even the best stories can make a mistake and include something as harshly annoying as Tear Magic.
While not much is known about Tear Magic, it has a reputation for its power. It’s stated that the more powerful the tears and the more that the magic user cries, the stronger they become. In order to gain plenty of strength, these tears need to turn into wails so loud that even the lowest volume setting isn’t quite enough.
8 It’s Time to Take A Break From the Magical Swords
Anime hasn’t only displayed the chances for magical abilities, but also for enchanted objects to have a valuable use in their stories. Swords are one of the most common magical items in anime and can be greatly impressive. Inuyasha’s Tessaiga, Yu Yu Hakusho’s Spirit Sword and Bleach’s Ryujin Jakka are some of the countless swords that have a great impact on their stories.
However, the continuous usage of a magical sword can be seen as a cop-out. Characters may not train as vigorously as viewers would like to see or end up relying on the power of the sword without developing their own strengths. Fans have had enough of the enchanted sword and wish to see more, original ideas.
7 Saiki K Shows That With Great Power Comes Great Annoyance
Shūichi Asō’s The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. which has been adapted into an anime has become extremely popular due to its hilarious take on someone born with psychic powers. Most stories tell epic adventures of those using their abilities for good and evil. Saiki, however, shares a different story.
Unlike most protagonists with special powers, Saiki is fed up with the lack of the unknown. His endless list of powers proves as nothing more than an inconvenience to him. Each episode is filled with the unordinary life of an unordinary boy who wishes that he could live normally. While the powers themselves are incredible, Saiki’s own annoyance with them brings a humorous element to the story.
6 One Piece’s Wanze Manages To Make Noodles Obnoxious
Wanze is introduced in chapter 367 and episode 257 of Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece. As a member of the Cipher Pol 7 agency and a cook, Wanze utilizes his skills to assist in combat. He serves as an antagonist in the Water 7 Arc and one of the most obnoxious characters in the series.
As a cook, Wanze is able to incorporate ingredients to help him fight. He is able to make ramen with his body by kneading dough in his mouth and cutting it into noodles with the assistance of his nose hairs. He launches the ramen out of his nose for attack purposes and creates battle suits for protection out of the noodles.

5 If Nen Wasn’t Confusing Already, Knuckle Proves it Gets Worse
Fans of Hunter x Hunter can all agree that Nen is a diverse and intricately detailed power system that characters within the universe are able to attune to. While there are six ways in which someone can access their Nen, everyone is able to form their ability into one that is uniquely their own.
A Beast Hunter, Knuckle Bine, is introduced in the Chimera Ant arc where a hefty amount of new Nen powers come into play. While some Nen can be seen as strange or lacking creativity, Knuckle proves that he can confuse any Hunter by including math, an adorable mascot and accruing interest. While Knuckle has tried to explain his Nen, his long lecture goes in one ear and right out the other.
4 Proxy Fights Feel Like Pokémon Ripoffs
An ability that has become far too common in anime is characters summoning creatures to battle for them. One story that has established itself on this ability is Pokémon. Since this is the main fighting mechanic in the world, it works extremely well. However, this has become quite overused in other series.
A recently adapted anime that has the protagonist calling on creatures to fight for them is The Reincarnation of the Strongest Exorcist in Another World which is available for streaming on Crunchyroll. The protagonist had the ability to seal monsters and spirits, using this power to control them and fight for him. While it was interesting in the beginning, it started getting quite old.
3 Street Manipulation Is the Worst Quirk
There are countless types of quirks in My Hero Academia, and plenty that seem extremely obscure. Ending is an antagonist that is introduced later on during the Endeavor Agency Arc. His quirk is called Whiteline, which allows him to manipulate lines painted road lines.
While Ending has a good grasp on his quirk — with the assistance of performance-enhancing drugs — the power is far from one fans would wish to have for themselves. His ability depends on location and is extremely limited on what it can do.
10 Best Anime Powers Not Worth The Cost
2 Fairy Tail Proves That Butts Aren’t Always Funny
Fairy Tail has introduced plenty of interesting powers that are possessed by a range of people. Sometimes a person’s power is predictable based on their appearance. The Jiggle Butt Gang is a prime example of this.
This group consists of three people with outlandishly large rear ends. The three decided to work together and commit acts of theft. With the assistance of their bottoms, they’re able to follow through with thievery. The Jiggle Butt Gang is able to produce gas that is both stinky and destructive. While it’s ridiculous and humorous for a second, their powers quickly lose their appeal and become obnoxious.
1 Erased: Time Travel Is Only Exciting if Controlled
Erased by Kei Sanbe has become a huge hit amongst manga readers for its appealing story and unique approach at solving a mystery. Multiple adaptations have been made with mixed reviews, but many can agree on the fact that the protagonist, Satoru Fujinuma’s, time travel ability may be helpful, but is also quite inconvenient.
Before 29-year-old Satoru travels back in time to his childhood to solve the disappearance and murder of one of his elementary school classmates, he only had the ability to travel back in time for a few minutes to stop accidents from occurring. However, Satoru doesn’t choose when he travels back in time and must accept it when it happens. Even though he has the chance to help others, the power lacks control and convenience.
