The guy had a lot of character development throughout the series but has lost every major fight. It could also be said that he is the fodder character before the main fight begins and the MC comes in.
And seeing that Ban showed up in the latter part of the chapter, it is very likely to go in that direction. Though Tower of God tends to avoid genre traps, it also follows some of them rigorously. The main character and the chosen one of the series is Ban, so some things must be done by him.
And this also leads to him having plot armor and doing things otherwise impossible. But at the very least, we don’t have the MC taking care of everything, and with every big problem, other characters get developed, too. Jinsung had gotten there and wanted to get his hands on what his student couldn’t get the book. The book has some important info regarding the matters that will affect the future of the tower and all its residents.
Jinsung knows this and will do everything to get his hands on the book, no matter what. And for that matter, he charged against the spearman without the fear of his life, a fight he couldn’t win. Or that was what we thought until he redirected the spears to each other and neutralized them, giving him a chance to beat the night.
The spearman took it as an affirmation that he could go a little harder on Jinsung. But, the man was not deterred by all this and kept pressing on, making it seem like he would get the man. Outside the enclosed room, Ban and his friend dropped just at the climax of the battle as Jinsung gave a death blow.

Tower Of God Chapter 588 will have Ban finding a way to get inside the chamber and help his friends out of trouble and tend to them. While it would be nice for Jinsung to be a great show, it is simply not happening, especially given his history. The man has lost every major fight in the series, even when he put everything on the line.
In the last chapter, he even put in his catchphrase. Every time Jinsung said, ‘Did I get him?’ it always turned around with him losing spectacularly in every main fight. Ban showing up was another omen that indicated that he would lose the fight and Ban would avenge him. It could be that the author of the series hates Jinsung for some reason, or he is just the fight fodder in the author’s head.
