A new anime adaptation for the horror comedy manga ZOM 100: Bucket List of the Dead is coming in July.
As reported by Anime News Network, Shogakukan, publisher of the ZOM 100 manga, accompanied its announcement of the upcoming series with a short promotional video highlighting key members of the cast and crew. It also introduces the series’ main hero, Akira Tendo. While the series will be available on Hulu for viewers in the U.S., streaming platforms for other territories are currently unknown.
The ZOM 100: Bucket List of the Dead manga debuted in Shogakukan’s Monthly Sunday Gene-X magazine in October 2018. It was written by Haro Aso, of Alice in Borderland fame, and illustrated by Kotaro Takata. The plot revolves around a 24-year-old corporate worker named Akira Tendo, drained physically and emotionally from his thankless career. However, one day, Tendo wakes up to discover that zombies have overrun his entire city. Instead of feeling terrified, Tendo gets an exhilarating new lease on life from the situation, feeling truly alive for the first time in years. As the title suggests, Tendo creates a Bucket List of 100 things to do before turning into a zombie.
Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead Has a Strong Team Behind It
BUG FILMS is producing the upcoming series, with Kazuki Kawagoe (Komi Can’t Communicate) at the helm as director. Hanako Ueda will serve as Assistant Director. Hiroshi Seko (Attack on Titan, Mob Psycho 100) is in charge of the Series Composition. The series has two different character designers, with Kii Tanaka (Absolute Duo, Yo-kai Watch: The Movie) overseeing the human designs and Junpei Fukuchi (Summer Time Rendering) overseeing the zombie designs. Makoto Miyazaki (One-Punch Man) is composing the series’ music. Shuichiro Umeda stars as Akira Tendo.
In addition to BUG FILM’s upcoming anime, there is also a live-action film adaptation in the works for ZOM 100: Bucket List of the Dead. Several key staff and cast members have already been revealed, including Director Yusuke Ishida (Love Strikes!) and scriptwriter Tatsuhiko Mishima. Eiji Akaso will star as Akira. Supporting cast members include Kazuki Kitamura as Akira’s abusive boss, Gonzo Kosugi, Shuntaro Yanagi as Akira’s friend, “Kencho,” and Mai Shiraishi (Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween) as Shizuka Mikazuki, a girl that Akira befriends in the aftermath of the zombie apocalypse. This movie will debut sometime in 2023.
The ZOM 100: Bucket List of the Dead anime will debut on Hulu this July. The manga is available in English from VIZ Media.
