In Episode 1, Reincarnated as a Sword fully establishes its main character’s over-the-top power level. The titular sword has amassed skills of various uses — both ones that are effective for fighting and those that only have utility purposes. The sword has proven its fighting abilities by defeating countless monsters, including high-leveled ones, in its bid to get more powerful. Since it is a weapon, it also has a skill-sharing attribute that allows it to let its wielder have access to its large pool of skills. Logically, one would think that the sword will be carrying its owner through challenging battles. However, that may not be the case.
Episode 1 also introduces Fran to the series. Like her future sword, Fran’s backstory is quite tragic. She is first seen being maltreated as a slave. With a collar that stops her from fighting back, she is basically helpless against her slave trader. Hoover, her fateful encounter with the sentient sword changes her destiny. Teacher, as she later on names the sword, frees her from her shackles and lets her become its wielder. They prove their compatibility by taking care of the ferocious beast attacking them. Episode 2 reveals that their victory is not solely due to Teacher’s overpowered abilities.
Fran’s Journey Truly Begins
Fran might have started off weak, but Episode 2 revealed her hidden potential. After her parents died in their bid to evolve, Fran took it upon herself to realize their dream. She started her pursuit of power. Surprisingly, she had the talent for it. Fran could quickly adapt to her sword’s skills and learn them, regardless if it was a sword skill or a magic skill. In addition to that, she also had superb fighting abilities. Since she was a Beastkin, she had physical abilities and instincts that far surpassed an ordinary human’s. Combining her potential with her natural ability made her a force to be reckoned with, which she proved during the Adventurer Guild’s trial.
While traveling aimlessly, Fran and Teacher saved a caravan from a Goblin attack. They agreed to escort said caravan to the nearby town. During their journey, one of the people they saved told them about the Adventurer’s Guild. Fran took an interest in their power hierarchy and decided to be one as well. Like in other series, she only had to take up a test to become one. Teacher also agreed to it as being an adventurer would allow them to exchange their loot for money.
The Beginning of a Potentially Over-Powered Pair
Fran’s trial required her to fight against the Oni Donadrond, the examiner of the Adventurer’s Guild. Donadrond’s battle axe alone boasted a 650 attack stat, the highest Teacher ever appraised. With Donadrond going all out, Fran was also forced to do her best. She agilely dodged the Oni’s consecutive attacks, but that only allowed put her on the defensive. Teacher used its magic to support Fran by both boosting her stats and also casting spells to hold down the Oni. Meanwhile, the cat-girl used her swordsmanship and beastly abilities to land the final blow, earning her the qualifications to become an adventurer.
Reincarnated as a Sword’s titular main character is undeniably an overpowered weapon. Since it can share its slew of overpowered abilities with its wielder, it can easily carry anyone in battle. However, its current owner, Fran, doesn’t simply rely on its power. Fran herself is a capable warrior and can hold her ground in a fight. More so, she is a fast learner that easily absorbs Teacher’s skills and instructions. Their fight against Donadrond is proof that by combining their strengths, they can take on even the fiercest creatures in the world of Reincarnated as a Sword.
