Warning: The following contains spoilers for The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic, Episode 13, “The Journey Begins!,” now streaming on Crunchyroll.

With the human-demon tussle at its end and Usato preparing for his next journey, The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic’s first season has finally reached its conclusion. Despite the latest episode being the season’s last, the open-ended tonality of the entire episode hinted at more things to come, and that too, grander than before.

With the introduction of beastkin and the exposition regarding Usato’s upcoming journey to the other nations, the series has already geared itself for another upcoming adventure. While The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic’s second season hasn’t been confirmed yet, the final episode offers a glimpse into Usato’s future adventures, coupled with a few revelations that are sure to prime the show for a renewal.

The Identity of the Mysterious Fox-Girl

The show already has plenty of mysterious characters among its roster, but one figure that stood out is the fox-girl that showed Usato a vision from the future. Nothing was revealed about this mysterious character during the entire season, yet the final episode seemed to have primarily revolved around this odd character. The fox-girl Amako is actually a beastkin from a faraway place known as the Beastlands, a nation where humanoid beasts with mystical powers reside.

Beastkin are a separate race from humans, possessing characteristics of both animals and humans. However, their magical abilities are known to be far above humans and demons, and Amako’s premonition is proof of this very fact. The girl was taken in by the people of Llinger, and she is currently lying low in their refuge.

Usato’s “Debt” to Amako

Before granting Usato the vision, Amako states that he is now indebted to her, and he must pay her back eventually. The entire mystery has now been unraveled, as Amako gave Usato the premonition to gain a favor in return. Her wish is rather simple, as she only wants Usato to heal her ailing mother who resides somewhere within the Beastlands.

I have to save my mother. She hasn’t opened her eyes in a long time. That’s why I’m looking for a healer.

Since healing magic is only manifested within humans, Amako was forced to flee her nation in search for a healer. She had already seen a vision where Rose rejected her wish, leaving Usato as her only hope. She was aware of Usato’s selfless disposition, meaning he would help her no matter the cost.

Usato’s Journey to the Beastlands

While the Beastlands were not initially part of Usato’s journey to gather support from neighboring nations, this location was added to his escapade upon the request of Amako. King Llinger acknowledged Amako’s help in the war through her vision, and granted her request as a way to repay her efforts.

With Amako heading out with Usato on his journey to the farlands, another character has been added to the show’s primary lineup. However, it seems The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic might be headed towards an isekai cliche with the formation of a harem. With Suzune already vying for Usato’s attention and the Black Knight, Felm, also experiencing emotions for the healer, a love debacle could be underway.

What Will Usato’s New Adventure Entail?

The final episode focused on gearing up Usato for his journey to the other nations, and the show has revealed a glimpse of the characters that await them. Usato and his party will be visiting four different territories during the entire voyage. The closest nation is the magic city of Luqvist, after which the party will head out to Samariarl. The last destination would be the nation of water, Mialark, after which Usato and Amako will head out to Beastkin territory.

With four different nations awaiting Usato and the heroes, the show is set to receive an entirely new roster of intriguing characters. Not all nations would be willing to cooperate, meaning conflicts and political debacles would also make their way into the narrative. The journey will also add some much-needed worldbuilding to the show, as The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic’s world has subpar exposition compared to other isekai anime.

Rose’s Final Words to Usato

Rose has remained Usato’s mentor during his journey in this world, and the two have come to form a significant bond. Naturally, Rose lent Usato a few words of wisdom before he embarked on his next adventure. She warns Usato that this adventure will be different, one laced with uncertainties and danger.

I’m sure this journey to deliver missives will affect you one way or another. I expect great things from you, Usato.

Another interesting piece of information that Rose reveals is the fact that healing magic is considered a weaker form of magic by people in other nations, making it a subject of their prejudice. However, her advice to Usato is the same as ever — beating everyone and everything to a pulp. For now, The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic’s narrative has come to a halt, leaving fans speculating about the show’s renewal for another season.
