A passionate anime fan captures Anya and her cuteness in a recreation of one of Spy x Family’s manga covers.
Uploaded on Reddit by Otaku_Defined, the Anya costume shows off the young mindreader’s Eden Academy school uniform and features her signature light pink hair. Having become an absolute favorite of the anime community, Anya has inspired a myriad of fan-made content; beyond Otaku_Defined adorable interpretation, other recent examples include one workout enthusiast’s musclebound version of the character and a TikTok user’s hilarious video that spotlights Anya’s ditzy personality.
Mangaka Tatsuya Endo began publishing his ongoing series on Shueisha’s Shōnen Jump+ website in March 2019. The story follows the often wacky misadventures of the Forgers, a colorful found family that includes Loid, one of the world’s most skillful spies; Yor, a caring woman who is secretly a deadly assassin; Bond, their Great Pyrenees with precognitive powers; and of course, Anya, who has the ability to read minds.
The plot’s incredible balance between moments of intense intrigue and action and wholesome (and often funny) interactions between the four leads has greatly resonated with many readers. Spy x Family has already sold over 30 million worldwide, making it one of the best-selling manga of all time. Moreover, Endo’s work has won several prestigious awards, including the Web Manga category at the Next Manga Awards in 2019 and the Next Hit category at the Tsutaya Comic Awards in 2020.
Spy x Family’s Award-Winning Anime Adaptation
The first season of the anime adaptation by Wit Studio and CloverWorks premiered in April 2022, and the second season will debut in October 2023; the tie-in movie, Spy x Family Code: White is scheduled for a December 2023 release. Like Endo’s manga, the show has been a major success. Notably, Spy x Family dominated this year’s Crunchyroll Anime Awards, receiving nominations in 18 categories. It won Best New Series alongside Best Comedy, Best Ending Sequence and several more.
Spy x Family doesn’t just ignite the imaginations of talented fans, resulting in incredible cosplay; the franchise has also inspired many companies looking to turn a profit. For example, perfume manufacturer primaniacs recently announced a special line of fragrances based on the personalities of two of the story’s characters — Damian Desmond and Yuri Briar. Moreover, Japan’s #1 canned coffee brewer, Boss Coffee, has released multiple Spy x Family beverages to celebrate Father’s Day.
