Yuji Itadori Finally Gets a Major Unexpected Power-Up
The following article contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 220, "Self-Purification, Self-Constraint," by Gege Akutami, John Werry and Snir Aharon.

Since Gojo told Yuji during one of their first training sessions that he would eventually learn Sukuna's Cursed Technique because the King of Curses was inside of him, Jujutsu Kaisen fans have been impatiently waiting for Yuji to receive a significant power-up. Gojo's predictions caught fans' attention, and they have been speculating about when it will actually happen ever since. Most recently, when Yuji battled Sukuna after the latter took control of Megumi's body, many thought that was a hint that it would happen soon.

Yuji is adamant about killing Sukuna and saving Megumi, but he is aware of his physical limitations. Maybe no one else is, except Satoru Gojo. Yuji has stated his willingness to eat anything that might help him kill Sukuna because he is so determined to do so. He has now eaten the Death Painting Wombs, his and Choso's siblings, and this should be the unanticipated trigger for him receiving his long-awaited power-up.

Why and How Yuji Might Change From Here in JJK

Yuji with Choso in the Jujutsu Kaisen manga

At first, there were nine Death Painting Wombs, among them Choso, Eso, and Kechizu. Yuji and Nobara killed Eso and Kechizu, which indicates that Yuji has eaten the other six people still alive. Choso had no issues with Yuji doing this because it ensures the survival of their siblings inside Yuji. After that is finished, Yuji should undergo a significant change.

It's not clear how exactly this will affect Yuji. After all, he still hasn't been able to use Sukuna's Cursed Technique. Sukuna, however, is able to use Megumi's Cursed Technique with ease after switching vessels. Maybe this new situation will be different for Yuji due to the Death Painting Wombs being his siblings and Choso approving of them living on inside him. That said, it's a mystery what Cursed Techniques or other abilities these six Death Painting Wombs possess.

Choso, Kechizu, and Eso all employed blood-related Jujutsu, with Choso having access to the Kamo family's inherited method. Yuji will probably have the same blood-related abilities as their other siblings, which is safe to assume. He might finally awaken his own Cursed Technique. Furthermore, it's possible that Yuji will be able to communicate with his siblings the same way he did with Sukuna. Similar to Sukuna's fingers, the Death Painting Wombs are cursed objects that, when ingested by a vessel, reincarnate. In other words, they could all develop consciousness to some extent.

It is impossible to predict whether the power-up Yuji acquires will be sufficient to defeat Sukuna or even Kenjaku. Both antagonists have shown to be incredibly strong and wise. It will be a team effort because fortunately Yuji and all of his allies have come together. In addition, it has been revealed that Hana Kurusu and Angel are still alive, so unless something unexpected happens, Gojo should be released from the Prison Realm in the following chapters. For the first time in a long time, the overall picture is somewhat encouraging.
