If Anya from Spy x Family ever needed to acquire more Stella Stars, then she could always simply borrow the elegant golden checkmark from the mangaka's Twitter page. Close enough; they're both gold and pointy, after all. On April 21, 2023, Tatsuya Endo, the mastermind behind the acclaimed series, conveyed his own bewilderment through a screenshot posted on Twitter, in which he is depicted next to Anya's suspicious stare, with the words "I didn't do anything???". Interestingly enough, a golden checkmark appears right next to his name, indicating his account's status as an official organization on Twitter.

The Gold Checkmarks Cost a Cool $1,000/mo

While it is true that regular users of Twitter need to pay a monthly subscription fee of $8 in order to get a blue checkmark, an associated gold one comes with an expensive price tag of $1,000 per month, plus an additional $50 per month for an extra account. Judging from the endearingly flustered response of the mangaka himself, it is safe to say he was not the one who shelled out the steep fee. Furthermore, in a surprising twist of events, some famous individuals were exempt from this rule and were granted a blue or a gold checkmark by none other than Elon Musk himself, who granted horror novelist Stephen King the much-coveted golden mark despite King's explicit rejection of the Twitter Blue subscription service. Some fans were even brave enough to joke that Musk must be a fan of Spy x Family, especially considering that he used a meme from an episode where Anya accidentally poisoned Loid and Yor with her cooking.

Musk Presents Himself as an Anime Fan

Furthermore, it appears that Musk has a liking for the Japanese manga and anime scene in general. He made his love for anime public by disclosing his favorite anime titles to a Twitter user, but his admiration for manga almost led him to legal trouble. The case of Kentaro Sato's manga Magical Girl Site comes to mind, when in March 2022 Musk used an uncredited art from the mangaka's work, prompting a demand for $1 billion in usage fees. However, he has not responded to the artist's demand so far.

In any case, Spy x Family continues to captivate millions of readers worldwide, due to its comedy, intense action sequences, and heartfelt story. The series revolves around an elite spy that takes on the persona of Loid Forger to maintain the delicate balance between Westalis and Ostania, a quest that requires him to create a family as part of his disguise. What Loid doesn't know is that his "wife" Yor and his "daughter" Anya are concealing some dark secrets of their own.

Produced by CloverWorks and Wit Studio, the first season premiered in April 2022 and a second season is scheduled to be released in October 2023, while the upcoming movie Spy x Family CODE: White is set to be in theaters on Dec. 22, 2023.
