The One Piece manga will be suspended for four issues, or around one month, while Eiichiro Oda gets eye surgery.

The creator of One Piece, who married a real-life Nami, stated that the manga would be on hiatus beginning with Weekly Shnen Jump Issue 29. Oda added that he has severe astigmatism, which causes his vision to blur and causes him to see "a lot of people with twins these days." After discussing with his editor for over a year, the mangaka decided to have surgery to remedy the problem. He stated in his post that he believed the eye surgery would improve his vision and allow him to "shoot beams from my eyes!!".

One Piece will release Chapter 1086 on June 11 before taking a break and resuming serialization in Issue 33, which releases on July 18.

Fans' Reactions to the Announcement of One Piece

Fans met the announcement with some devastation, as the last time Oda took a one-month hiatus was in June 2022. Most fans supported Oda's decision especially given how poor health conditions seem to go hand-in-hand with being an artist. Although it will take approximately a month for the manga to return, fans still have a lot of One Piece to look forward to. A live-action adaptation of One Piece is currently in the production stage and Oda has been supervising it. The mangaka gave an update in May to reassure fans Netflix would not release the eight-episode television series until he was happy with it. The One Piece live-action is currently scheduled to release in 2023, but a premiere window has yet to be announced. In the meantime, the live-action has been hyping fans up with various teaser images released, including a new poster featuring the Going Merry.

The anime is still airing, with Season 20 titled "Wano Country." Season 19 debuted in July 2019 with Episode 1065, "The Destruction of the Alliance?! ", produced by Toei Animation and directed by Konosuke Uda, Munehisa Sakai, and Hiroaki Miyamoto. "Fire up, New Generation Will!" will be released on June 11. Mayumi Tanaka has been the voice of Monkey D. Luffy since 1999.

One Piece originally began as two one-shots titled Romance Dawn, where he conceptualized the creation of Monkey D. Luffy. The manga began serializing in Weekly Shōnen Jump in July 1997, although publishers initially rejected it three times before Shueisha accepted it. The series tells the legendary tale of a young man named Monkey D. Luffy, who has a rubber body due to his consumption of a Devil Fruit. He sets off to find the ultimate treasure, the One Piece, to become the King of Pirates.

One Piece returns on July 16 with Chapter 1087. The manga is available to read on Manga Monster and Viz Media.
