  • Kuma agrees to become a test subject for Vegapunk's project in order to cover the cost of his daughter's surgery.
  • Saturn sets three conditions for the surgery, including Kuma becoming a Shichibukai and giving up his free will.
  • Bonney escapes from the Sorbet Kingdom and sets out to find Kuma, while the World Government tries to stop her.

After an exhaustive search for a cure for Bonney, Kuma finally located it on Egghead Island, guided by Dragon who highlighted the lax security around Vegapunk's new lab. Despite the eccentricities, Kuma held a positive view of Vegapunk, considering him a genuinely kind individual.

Upon reaching the island, Vegapunk assured Kuma that he possessed the necessary resources to perform the surgery that would save Bonney. Overjoyed at the prospect of his daughter living beyond her 10th birthday, Kuma eagerly agreed. In return, Vegapunk requested Kuma to become a test subject for his project, a condition the buccaneer willingly accepted to cover the surgery's cost.

However, the situation took a dark turn when Saint Jaygarcia Saturn discovered the arrangement between two of the most intelligent characters in One Piece, throwing an unforeseen obstacle into their plans.

The Three Conditions

Saturn presented three stringent conditions as prerequisites for Vegapunk to commence the operation on Bonney. The initial demand mandated that Kuma assume the role of a Shichibukai, filling the void left by the defeat of one of its members by Ace. Saturn believed that Kuma's formidable reputation made him an ideal candidate for this position. The second condition stipulated that Kuma become a weapon for the Marines, undergoing intricate procedures to enhance his strength and contribute to the Marine forces.

However, the cruelest of Saturn's demands lay in the third condition. He insisted that Kuma relinquish his sense of individuality and free will, transforming into a mindless cyborg under their control. This proposition stirred Vegapunk's fury, recognizing that stripping Kuma of his free will amounted to a form of murder. Despite Vegapunk's objections, Kuma expressed his willingness to sacrifice everything for the sake of his daughter. In a surprising twist, he found solace in the realization that he could indeed meet all of Saturn's requirements.

Separating Father and Daughter

After Kuma acquiesced to all the conditions, Saturn revealed another devastating clause: once Bonney's surgery concluded, Kuma would be forever barred from meeting her again. This revelation shattered Kuma, whose every action was driven by the desire to secure a future for his daughter. Saturn intended to keep Bonney captive until Kuma's transformation was complete, ensuring they never crossed paths. In a plea, Kuma asked Saturn to send Bonney back to the Sorbet Kingdom, at least allowing her to be surrounded by familiar faces. Saturn agreed to this, initiating Bonney's treatment that spanned six agonizing months, overseen by Dowager Conney.

To further ensure Kuma's compliance, the World Government dispatched Alpha, a Cipher Pol agent, to monitor Bonney. For months, she intercepted and destroyed every letter Kuma sent to his daughter, showing no remorse for her actions. As Bonney reached her ninth birthday without receiving any communication from her father, her curiosity grew. Conney unveiled the truth, disclosing that Alpha was working for the World Government. Together, they devised a plan to ensure Bonney's safe departure.

The Escape Plan

Conney managed to sneak Bonney out with the help of some trusted people. However, Alpha managed to find out about their plan and gave chase. The Cipher Pol agent was furious, and she wasn't going to let Bonney slip away from her fingers. Just when it seemed that the young girl would have to go back to being a prisoner, Bonney did something rather remarkable. She remembered her conversation with Kuma, where she asked him about Nika's appearance.

Kuma told her that Nika had a rubbery body. So, Bonney used her Toshi Toshi no Mi to tap into an alternate future. She used Distorted Future, which increased the size of her fist just like Luffy's Gear 3rd. The sheer power of the attack was enough to defeat Alpha. With no one else to stop Bonney, she finally left the Sorbet Kingdom.

What Happened After

Bonney's aim was to find Kuma, which wasn't going to be easy as the World Government was aware that she had managed to run away. The organization would do everything in its power to make sure that she wouldn't meet Kuma again. Bonney's destination was likely Egghead Island, as it was the last place that she and Kuma were together. The World Government was probably aware of this fact, so it would have made its job a lot easier. All the organization had to do was just wait on the island.

Given the fact that Bonney blamed Vegapunk for her father's condition, it is highly likely that she didn't get an opportunity to find out the truth. Bonney probably saw her father as a mindless cyborg, but she couldn't do anything about it, which is why she became a full-time pirate. The upcoming chapters will shed more light on Bonney's past.
