"Please do not open the door." These four simple words, which are ominous even without context, can send Chainsaw Man fans into sobbing fits.

One of the most heartbreaking sequences from the manga has been brought to life in this fan art, which was created by the amazing fan and artist d3monicas. On one side, small pockets with things like a chore chart stuck to the wall and a picture of Denji, Power, and Aki smiling together serve as reminders of their happy existence together. Uncomfortably, the glass breaks directly above Aki's face. The Hayakawa home is completely dark, save for one flickering lamp that casts a feeble light. For the first time ever, Power, the horned Blood Fiend who usually emanated an air of reckless arrogance, is scared. Power turns to face Denji while she holds Meowy close to her chest. A single message that has plagued Denji's dreams appears on the screen and causes his fingers to shake: "Don't open the door." A dark figure with something sticking out of their head is standing at the entryway, where a "Welcome Home" mat welcomes guests.

Fans Respond to the Heartbreaking Scene Illustration

When they first read this one moment in Part 1, many fans were devastated. Even though it has been over two years since the end of Part 1 in December 2020, one reader who wrote, "This scene still makes me sad as fuck," expressed a lot of emotions upon seeing this fan art depicting the instant before Denji, who fans occasionally refer to as Dennis, and Power's lives become irrevocably altered. One of the many who praised d3monicas's work wrote, "Holy crap this is really good." Another person said, "This is amazing & also going to make me sob," which perfectly captured their contradictory feelings.

In Chainsaw Man, Denji's first meeting with Aki could have gone better. Aki insults Denji, believing that the 16-year-simplistic old's dreams are an insult to the rest of the Devil Hunters who have fought and died at the hands of the Devils. Denji decided Aki should never have children in a brazen retaliation, kicking the daylights out of his private parts. Power and Denji's first mission together could have gone better as well. Denji awoke after being knocked out by the Blood Fiend to find himself as the Bat Devil's next meal, as Power had swapped him for her cat Meowy. Despite their differences, the three of them formed a family.

While Chainsaw Man is well-known for its explicit sexual content and gore, the series has also been praised for its character development, particularly in its protagonist Denji. With the introduction of a new protagonist, Asa Mitaka, in the second part of the Chainsaw Man manga, Denji has taken a back seat, though he reappeared in the most recent chapter, "Apple Thief." In July 2022, Shonen Jump+ aired Part 2.

Fans can read the Chainsaw Man manga on Viz Media, but they should bring a box of tissues because it's an emotional rollercoaster.
