Jujutsu Kaisen: How Gojo Continues To Influence The World

Highlights

  • Gojo’s unmatched strength shifted the power balance in the Jujutsu world, leading to stronger Cursed Spirits emerging to maintain equilibrium.
  • Gojo’s battle with Sukuna marked a significant conclusion in his character arc, demonstrating the clash of ideologies between strength and selfishness.
  • Despite his demise, Gojo’s influence lingers, empowering his allies to fight against Sukuna and showcasing his lasting impact on the Jujutsu world.

When speaking about the most important characters in all of Jujutsu Kaisen, Gojo easily ranks toward the top of that list. His birth signified a shift of power in the Jujutsu world, where he was so strong that the Cursed Spirits that were manifested were far stronger than they had been for centuries in order to maintain the balance of the world. Even then, not a single other sorcerer or Cursed Spirit could even come close to him.

Gojo’s character arc reached its conclusion in the Shinjuku Showdown arc at the end of his battle with Sukuna. The 2 strongest characters in the entire Jujutsu Kaisen series fought to their hearts’ content and, despite Gojo giving it his all, he died against the only person who could ever understand him. However, despite meeting his end, Gojo’s influence still hangs over the world, being the only reason why the heroes continue to have any sort of chance against the King of Curses.

Shinjuku Showdown Arc

Ever since he was little, Gojo had been plagued with the responsibility of being the strongest. However, this wasn’t something that he was always alone in, as his best friend, Suguru Geto, was at the same level of power. This meant that, despite the isolation that came with this unmatched strength, he always had someone who understood him, so he could confide in his friend more than anyone else.

However, after the events of the Hidden Inventory arc and the influence of Toji Fushiguro on the story, Gojo eventually undergoes an awakening, in which he far succeeds everyone, even Geto, in strength. Due to this, he once again began to feel isolated, since now, even his best friend couldn’t understand him the same way, which was made even worse when Geto turned evil. Despite his easygoing and carefree attitude with his students, Gojo always felt this until his battle with Sukuna.

But no matter how many allies you have around you, when you die, you’ll be alone.

This was a battle of ideologies. Gojo was the strongest sorcerer of the modern age, embodying the desire to nurture the strength of his allies despite feeling isolated from them due to the difference in strength, whereas Sukuna was the embodiment of selfishness, arrogance, and pride. He only ever sought out strength for himself and rejected the idea of relying on others to increase it.

The battle was long and incredible to witness, as the 2 most powerful sorcerers in history battled it out to see who was right and who was wrong. In the end, Sukuna managed to win the battle due to his expertise, experience, and knowledge of Jujutsu. However, toward the end of the series, it may just be Gojo who ends up the victor in their battle of ideologies.

Gojo’s Everlasting Influence

Straight after Gojo’s death, the rest of Jujutsu High wasted no time in jumping into the battle against Sukuna themselves, with each character doing some damage to the King of Curses in one way or another. This signifies one way that Gojo has already won over Sukuna, as his main goal in life was to foster powerful allies that wouldn’t need to depend on him to win their battles, so that the world would be fine if Gojo wasn’t there.

Since Yuji and the rest of Jujutsu High jumped on Sukuna, they have done a substantial amount of damage to his true form, which is supposed to be even more powerful than his Megumi vessel. Even though Sukuna has taken the lives of many of these sorcerers, their continued efforts have only proven Gojo right, as the King of Curses has taken an incredible amount of damage, to the point of losing his appendages to the relentless assault of the heroes.

No matter what era it is, you Jujutsu sorcerers are a pain!

If Sukuna was at full power after his battle with Gojo, the rest of the heroes wouldn’t have stood a chance. However, the fight with Gojo was so tough that Sukuna’s Cursed Energy Reserves dropped to an all-time low, which meant that he could not fight the heroes at maximum capacity, and still can’t. Moreover, his use of Reverse Cursed Technique has also been severely limited due to him spamming the ability against Gojo.

The drop that Sukuna suffered in his Cursed Energy reserves directly affected the potency of his Cursed Technique as well, which meant that they didn’t do enough damage to the rest of the heroes either. Most importantly, however, Gojo’s insane Domain Expansion battle caused Sukuna’s brain to take so much damage that, for the longest time, Sukuna couldn’t use his Domain against the other sorcerers, saving them from certain death.

Moreover, Gojo’s influence isn’t only limited to his allies. Just like how Mahito learned how to open his Domain for only 0.2 seconds from Gojo, Sukuna too has taken some tricks from his greatest opponent. After finally regaining his ability to cast his Domain Expansion in Chapter 258 against the heroes, Sukuna opens a far more destructive version of Malevolent Shrine that seems to somehow incorporate Megumi’s Ten Shadows technique.

Seeing how his Cursed Energy reserves were super low, his Reverse Cursed Technique wasn’t working, and he was missing 2 of his right hands, making it impossible to cast the hand sign for Malevolent Shrine, he took a concept from Gojo. Through many Binding Vows, Sukuna was able to cast his Domain Expansion using the same hand sign that Gojo used for his own Unlimited Void. By using this hand sign, which requires only one hand to cast, Sukuna realized his Domain only by taking a page out of Gojo’s book.

Jujutsu Kaisen can be streamed on Amazon Prime and Netflix.
