An accidental stumbling across Summertime Rendering has made Hideo Kojima a huge fan.
Hideo Kojima, an acclaimed video game designer known for creating Metal Gear and Death Stranding, was pleased with how “surprisingly good” the series was. Describing Summer Time Rendering as a “Time loop x The Stolen City (Body Snatchers) in Wakayama version,” Kojima passionately praised the character design, writing, animation and direction. Kojima also initially thought the series was “a joke when Ushio appears,” but changed his mind as he continued watching, concluding, “this is so sick!” The video game designer confessed to watching 10 episodes in one night.
Kojima’s Stamp of Approval Thrilled Summertime Rendering Fans
Twitter users expressed their delight at seeing Kojima join the Summertime Rendering fandom. One commented, “I don’t need MAL [My Anime List] anymore. Kojima-sensei is my no. 1 source of anime reviews,” and another wrote, “HIDEO GOATJIMA GIVING PEAK THE RECOGNITION IT DESERVES.” Another sardonically noted, “Kojima talking about this show is sadly probably the most advertisement it’ll ever get,” as Summertime Rendering suffered from a lack of promotion due to its streaming platform limitations.
Although the anime adaptation for Summertime Rendering had garnered much anticipation in the weeks leading up to its premiere, international viewers needed help legally watching the series. When the series launched in April 2022, only viewers in Japan could watch it on Disney+. International streaming platforms began streaming the series in a staggered time frame, starting in May 2022, with the US announcing Hulu as its streaming platform in January 2023.
