Later in the chapter, we see that when Albert asks Serwin if he is really going to marry a commoner like Amelie, he triggers him. That is why he says that he should not disrespect her like that while mentioning that he knows the people are going to cause quite an uproar about this, and that is also the reason why he is going to make a deal with him.

Furthermore, he also says that he doesn’t care if anyone else disagrees with this, but he doesn’t want any unnecessary hassle.

On the other hand, Albert wonders what he is up to because he is stuck there in his misery and waiting for the day Serwin will get dragged through the mud, and now he wants to make a deal with him to ensure his happiness. With this, he wonders if the commoner girl is that previous to him.
