One Piece Live-Action Episode Names and Run Times Reportedly Leak

Fans of One Piece may not know what to expect from Netflix’s adaptation, but they do know how much of it they can expect.

According to a Twitter tweet from famous One Piece news source One Piece Defender, the first season of the live-action series would consist of eight episodes, each lasting approximately one hour, with names indicating how swiftly the show intends to progress through the source material. While Episode 1 is obviously titled “Romance Dawn,” the fact that Episode 4 is titled “A Frog in the Well,” referring to Mihawk’s words upon meeting Zoro more over 20 episodes into the anime, indicates the storytelling approach fans may expect from Netflix’s version. The post also revealed the show’s budget, which is said to be approximately $100 million, as well as its intention to confront Zoro’s three-sword method by injecting CGI into the third blade.

While there is a lot of excitement about the live-action One Piece series, there is also a lot of concern among fans, given Netflix’s track record with anime adaptations. Rumors have lately circulated that the show’s initial test screening with crowds was a flop. Although these assertions have subsequently been refuted, they reflect the dissatisfaction that some fans have with the adaptation. However, all fans should be encouraged by Netflix’s recent vow to One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda that the series will not premiere until he is satisfied with the final product.

One Piece Fans Have To Wait Until Oda Is Satisfied

Another more positive rumor has claimed that the live-action series will premiere this coming August. One Piece Defender’s post indicated a similar time frame, with a trailer set to drop sometime in July. Given that Netflix officially announced the series back in January 2020 and that fans have been waiting nearly three and a half years for its premiere, it’s understandable that speculation about its release date is at an all-time high. However, taking any rumors with a grain of salt is important until Netflix officially confirms them. The streamer has kept information about the project relatively quiet, only releasing a single first-look video in June 2022, meaning that fans must remain patient until both Netflix and Oda feel the show is ready to be seen.

Luckily, in the meantime, there’s plenty of One Piece content to enjoy. The manga is steaming ahead into its final arc, which readers can check out through publisher VIZ Media. At the same time, the anime continues its adventures in Wano Country, which viewers can keep up with on Crunchyroll.
