The Marvels is now playing in theaters, and the latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe finds Carol Danvers teaming up with Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan. The long-awaited Captain Marvel sequel picks up right where Ms. Marvel ended, with the three main characters switching places every time they use their powers. While dealing with the quantum entanglement of their abilities, Carol, Monica, and Kamala must also deal with the villainous Dar-Benn, whose plan for saving the Kree homeworld could have planetary consequences.

While critics have been divided on The Marvels, and the plot definitely leaves something to be desired, there’s no denying that the chemistry between the three leads is the strongest part of the movie. However, as with any Marvel movie, fans will be wondering just how long they have to stay once the credits start rolling. So how many post-credits scenes are there in The Marvels, and what can fans expect to see in them?

How Many Post-Credits Scenes Does The Marvels Have?

Unlike many previous entries in the MCU that have featured two or more post-credits scenes like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, The Marvels actually only has one true post-credits scene. After that, a small surprise plays at the very end of the credits when the Marvel Studios card comes up on screen, but that is more of a cute little audio easter egg than anything having to do with the continuing story. It is also not a visual gag like the very last post-credits scene of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It’s up to viewers if they want to stick around and hear it, but it is not entirely necessary. A description of the post-credits scene follows, so for anyone who wants to be surprised, stop reading now.

From here on out, this article contains major spoilers for the end of The Marvels, as well as the movie’s post-credits scene.

What Happens in the Post-credits scene of The Marvels?

The post-credits scene finds Monica Rambeau in a hospital bed, following her sacrifice in the movie’s final act. Monica was able to close the dimensional rift created by Dar-Benn, but in order to do so, she had to stay on the other side in a different reality. Upon waking, Monica sees her mother, Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch reprising the role for a third time). Monica’s emotional reaction to seeing her mother very much alive after losing her to cancer in her own reality is a potent moment, maybe one of the best in the movie. But it’s the reveal that comes right after that is the big one.

Someone enters the hospital room to check on the patient, and their voice sounds very familiar. This person is then revealed to be none other than Hank McCoy, aka Beast from X-Men, with Kelsey Grammer reprising the role (however, this beast is rendered through CGI, rather than Grammer himself in a lot of makeup). Beast’s appearance here is very similar to how he was drawn in the X-Men animated series, which may be hinting at some X-Men ’97 connections. He tells Monica that she has ended up in “a reality parallel to her own.”

Maria gets up from her chair to speak with Beast, revealing, much like she was in Multiverse of Madness, that she is this universe’s Captain Marvel, with a suit that recalls Carol’s Binary identity. After Hank says he needs to report back to Charles (Xavier, of course), the big capper to the scene is Maria looking right at Monica and saying, “who are you?” It seems in this reality, Monica was never born.

The end-of-credits surprise, which isn’t entirely worth waiting around for, is the sound of meowing kittens, calling back to one of the movie’s funnier moments involving a mess of baby flerkens and a classic Lord Andrew Lloyd Weber musical number.
