What is Manga?

Manga is a Japanese comic book genre that has become increasingly popular around the world. Over the years, there have been many incredible manga titles that have captured the hearts of readers. Here are some of the best manga of all time.

Naruto

“Naruto” – This classic shonen manga by Masashi Kishimoto follows the adventures of a young ninja named Naruto Uzumaki. The series has become one of the best-selling manga of all time and has been adapted into an anime series, films, and video games. 

It tells the story of Naruto Uzumaki, a young ninja who seeks recognition from his peers and dreams of becoming the Hokage, the leader of his village. The story is told in two parts – the first set in Naruto’s pre-teen years, and the second in his teens. The series is based on two one-shot manga by Kishimoto: Karakuri (1995), which earned Kishimoto an honorable mention in Shueisha’s monthly Hop Step Award the following year, and Naruto (1997).

One Piece

“One Piece” – This pirate-themed manga by Eiichiro Oda has been serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since 1997 and has since become one of the best-selling manga in history. With its memorable characters, imaginative world-building, and captivating story, “One Piece” is a must-read for any manga fan.

The plot centers on the exploits of Monkey D. Luffy, a young man whose unintentional consumption of a Devil Fruit gave his body the characteristics of rubber. To succeed Gol D. Roger as the new King of the Pirates, Luffy explores the Grand Line with his pirate band, the Straw Hat Pirates, in search of the ultimate treasure known as the “One Piece.”

Death Note

“Death Note” – This psychological thriller manga by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata has been translated into over 40 languages and is one of the best-selling manga series of all time. The series revolves around a high school student who gains the power to kill anyone whose name he writes in a special notebook.

The story follows Light Yagami, a teen genius who discovers a mysterious notebook: the “Death Note”, which belonged to the shinigami Ryuk, and grants the user the supernatural ability to kill anyone whose name is written on its pages. The series centers around Light’s subsequent attempts to use the Death Note to carry out a worldwide massacre of individuals whom he deems immoral and to create a crime-free society, using the alias of a god-like vigilante named “Kira”. The subsequent efforts of an elite Japanese police task force, led by enigmatic detective L, to apprehend him.

Bleach

“Bleach” – This action-packed manga by Tite Kubo features an unusual mix of Japanese folklore, spiritual beings, and thrilling battles. The series follows a young man named Ichigo who becomes a Soul Reaper and must defend humanity from evil spirits.\

The plot follows Ichigo Kurosaki’s adventures after he gains the powers of a Soul Reaper (a death personification similar to the Grim Reaper) from another Soul Reaper, Rukia Kuchiki. His newfound abilities require him to defend humans from evil spirits and guide departed souls to the afterlife.

Dragon Ball

“Dragon Ball” – This classic shonen manga by Akira Toriyama is one of the most famous and influential manga series of all time. The series follows the adventures of a young warrior named Goku as he searches for the Dragon Balls and battles a variety of powerful foes.

The series follows the adventures of protagonist Son Goku from childhood to adulthood as he trains in martial arts. He spends his childhood far from civilization until he meets a teen girl named Bulma, who encourages him to join her quest to find the seven orbs known as the Dragon Balls, which, when gathered, summon a wish-granting dragon. Along the way, Goku meets new friends, starts a family, learns about his alien heritage, and battles a slew of villains, many of whom are also after the Dragon Balls.
