  • Villains like Geten, Himiko Toga, and Twice experience quirk evolutions, leading to new abilities that enhance their threat level.
  • Shigaraki’s decay quirk evolves in the Paranormal Liberation War arc, allowing him to spread decay without physical contact, making him more dangerous.

Quirks in the My Hero Academia world can be trained and, in turn, get stronger and more powerful over time. These evolutions are gradual or sometimes very sudden, taking the user by surprise and whoever the individual happens to be fighting at that very moment. Everyone wants to be stronger but in as much as training needs to be done, some users are lucky that they do not need training to unlock different levels of their power but they do need training to maintain the new level and get familiar with it.

Many quirks have grown stronger, giving its users a new experience and allowing them to overcome their limits. However, quirks evolving happen to everyone regardless of whether they are part of the hero society or not, as even villains experience a new surge of power that makes them a greater threat to the world.

5 Ice Ply

Can Now Control And Manipulate The Temperature Of Ice

  • Known User: Geten

Geten is part of the paranormal liberation army and is loyal to Rikiya Yotsubashi also known as Re-Destro. Geten is related to Rei Todoroki, who is Endeavour’s wife and Shoto Todoroki’s mother, and that explains his ice-related quirk. However, Geten cannot create ice as Shoto does, but instead, he can turn water into ice regardless of its quantity, making him incredibly powerful as he can attack, move, and gather use to enhance his movement.

Geten was not always this powerful, as he started off weak, according to Re: Destro. He noted that he suddenly got the ability to move and manipulate ice after Re: Destro suffered a great burn. Geten, who is highly devoted to Re: Destro, suddenly unlocked the ability to manipulate the temperature of ice so that he could help Re: Destro with his burns. Not only that, he can now freeze up a lake or all the water in the country to use however he pleases.

4 Transform

Can Now Imitate The Quirk Of The Individual’s Blood She Consumes

  • User: Himiko Toga

Transform is a blood-sucking quirk that allows Himiko to physically transform into whoever’s blood she has ingested. She cannot transform without consuming the person’s blood. This quirk is very useful and quite manipulative, as not only can she take up the other person’s physical appearances, but she perfectly mimics their voice, making it easy for her to infiltrate the heroes.

However, Himiko gets even more dangerous when her power suddenly evolves, giving her the ability to also mimic the quirk of whoever blood she consumes. She notices this while fighting with Ochaco Uraraka, and she finds herself being able to use Uraraka’s zero gravity quirk, which shocks both of them while also exciting Himiko.

3 Double

Can Now Create An Unlimited Amount Of Clones

  • Known User: Jin Bubaigawara

Twice has the double quirk that allows him to successfully clone or create a duplicate of both living and non-living things as long as he knows the exact and accurate measurements and characteristics. The downside to his creations is that they are not as powerful as the original, but the clones getting injured or killed do not affect the original as they simply dissolve into mud.

When his quirk evolves, there is no limit to how many clones he can make, and even more, his clones have the ability to create even more clones, causing an endless cycle of clones. It is safe to say his quirk evolved as he overcame his trauma, and he went from only creating two clones to making an army of clones that can overcome and overthrow a whole city.

2 Decay

Can Now Decay Objects And Humans Without Physically Touching Them

  • User: Tomura Shigaraki

In the Paranormal Liberation War arc, fans see the quirk of three villains evolve. These villains are Toga, Twice, and now Shigaraki. From the beginning, Shigaraki’s quirk could only be activated when she made contact with a person or an object, but during this arc, it evolved, and he no longer needed to make physical contact with a person or an object to activate his quirk.

Alongside not needing to make physical contact, he can now spread his decay from one person to another or object to another at an increasingly alarming rate, causing irreversible damage and making him more dangerous in the My Hero Academia world.

1 One For All

Can Now Use The Quirk Of The Fifth User, Black Whip

images/news/2024/5/8/my-hero-academia-quirks-evolved-over-time_5.jpg

  • Known User: Izuku Midoriya

One For All is a combination quirk and has the quirks of its past users embedded in it. When Midoriya first got the quirk, he had no idea what was in store for him, and neither did the fans. Midoriya’s new quirk evolved when he suddenly saw a black substance emit from his body, which he later discovered was Black Whip. This black whip is generated from Midoriya’s body and can be used to grab objects.

The presence of the whips catches Midoriya off guard, but after practicing, he gets the hang of it. He then realizes that the quirks of the past users are going to manifest, meaning that his quirk is still going to evolve as the anime progresses.
