This Scream 6 Plot Hole Needs To Be Fixed In Scream 7

Highlights

  • Fans of Scream are eagerly anticipating plot points in Scream 7, particularly regarding Ghostface and Sidney Prescott’s family.
  • Kevin Williamson’s involvement in directing for the sequel is a reassuring aspect for fans, but new elements are expected as well.
  • The upcoming Scream 7 should address plot holes found in previous films to maintain the intelligence and integrity of established characters.

With Scream 7 coming up, fans have a lot of curiosity about plot points, who Ghostface will be, and if the sequel will be about Sidney Prescott’s (Neve Campbell) family members. Imaginations are running wild since not much has been confirmed just yet. Since Scream has such a dedicated fanbase who enjoys discussing everything about the slasher franchise, it’s no wonder people have opinions about the seventh movie. Although Scream 7 will have some familiar aspects since Campbell is returning and Kevin Williamson is directing, there will likely be some completely new parts (which is something that fans seem to hope for).

After a Scream fan noticed a plot hole in Scream 6, it became clear that Scream 7 shouldn’t make a similar misstep. Whether or not Courteney Cox comes back to play Gale Weathers, the same idea can apply to the upcoming movie.

How Scream 7 Should Address This Plot Hole From Scream 6

Redditor @Lord_Sam_ brought up a Scream 6 plot hole in a Reddit thread: Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere) and Gale Weathers would be aware of Richie Kirsch’s (Jack Quaid) family. The fan wrote:

“How do Gale and Kirby, who investigated Scream 5’s events, not know about Richie’s family? Gale, who wrote a book on it and has seen a killer with the exact same motive (
Scream 2
), couldn’t find his family? Or when she couldn’t find them, didn’t flag his entire missing family as unusual? Same for Kirby: an FBI agent with all the resources couldn’t find his relatives?”

Since both Gale and Kirby have been established as intelligent characters who don’t let anything sneak by them, this is definitely a plot hole that shouldn’t happen in Scream 7. Gale has even dreamed of winning a Pulitzer Prize, which proves that she’s a strong reporter who works hard. If Gale comes back for the next movie, then Scream 7 should show some scenes of Gale researching Ghostface and finding out details no one else can.

Although library scenes can be horror movie cliches, it would be helpful to see Gale looking something up on her phone or using her laptop. These might not be the most entertaining, thrilling, or fun scenes. However, without them, it seems like Gale isn’t doing her due diligence, and that doesn’t fit with her character. If this doesn’t happen, then Gale won’t be used properly in Scream 7. If Gale doesn’t come back and Sidney is the only returning main character, then Sidney can play this role.

Whether Scream 7 is the final movie or not, there shouldn’t be a similar plot hole. Scream 7 can avoid this byensuring the main characters notice some clues about Ghostface. While the movie still needs to allow Sidney and the others to be surprised by the Ghostface reveal at the end, it doesn’t make sense for the various killers to seem so clever. Since the Scream franchise is made up of meta horror movies, Ghostface is goofy on purpose. Gale needs to be able to outsmart them.

What Are Other Scream Plot Holes?

Scream fans have noticed a few plot holes, and they have discussed them in various Reddit threads. Redditor @danielsaurus99 mentioned a scene from the original Scream from 1996: “Ghostface stalking Sidney and Tatum in the shop…” The fan mentioned that even though Woodsboro was under a curfew, it doesn’t make sense for Tatum Riley (Rose McGowan) and Sidney Prescott) not to notice Ghostface in the grocery store. It also seems that others would have noticed them as well. Redditor @ndrw17 added:

“Ghostface in the bushes and at the grocery store in broad daylight with no one noticing.”

Another Redditor wonders which Ghostface killed Olivia Morris (Marielle Jaffe) in Scream 4. They wrote that the two Scream 4 Ghostfaces Jill Roberts (Emma Roberts) and Charlie Walker (Rory Culkin) were busy so it makes no sense. The fan said:

“Olivia’s death makes no sense if Hoss and Perkins were chasing [sic] ghostface, but yet Jill was with Kirby and Charlie was in olivias closet so who was this ghostface that they chased away.”

Redditor @Jordan7p also wonders why it takes a long time for Ghostface to kill Wes Hicks (Dylan Minnette) in Scream (2022). They wrote that Judy knows Ghostface is going after Wes, arranges for cops to go to their home, and then drives back home. Then fan wrote, “Wes walked around his house for minutes and then eventually gets killed. I feel that’s an obnoxious amount of time to pass before the cops show up to the house with them living in a residential area. I know it’s a movie but still.”
