What If…? season 1 premiered over two years ago, offering alternate takes on already-established MCU storylines. For instance, the first episode showed fans how events would have unfolded had Peggy Carter taken the Super Soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers, and another depicted a team-up between Tony Stark and Kilmonger, with disastrous results. These stories were largely self-contained, though the What If…? season finale culminated with several heroes from each universe uniting to defeat an Ultron variant, firmly establishing the MCU multiverse.

Now, Disney Plus has confirmed What If…? season 2 will premiere this holiday season. However, a specific date was not provided, leaving fans to assume the Marvel Studios series could return to Disney Plus any day between now and New Year’s Eve. However, notable scooper CanWeGetSomeToast previously claimed the series will premiere “around Christmas.” While Disney Plus provided a What If…? season 2 synopsis, it was equally vague.

A What If…? season 2 episode reportedly centers on Happy Hogan saving Christmas, though few other details have surfaced. Additional episodes are rumored to focus on Nebula joining the Nova Corps and Iron Man meeting the Grandmaster from Thor: Ragnarok, among other stories. Perhaps most exciting is the confirmed debut of an all-new MCU character named Kahhori, who was created specifically for What If…? season 2. “What If…? asks what would happen if the Tesseract fell to Earth and landed in the sovereign Haudenosaunee Confederacy before the colonization of America,” reads Marvel’s description of Kahhori’s episode. “The Tesseract takes on a new life and a new mythology, transforming a lake into a gateway to the stars and leading Kahhori, a young Mohawk woman, on a quest to discover her power.”
While What If…? season 1 was largely unaffected by the MCU’s prime universe, and vice-versa, fans are curious to see if the second season will have more significant ramifications for the Multiverse saga. With Loki season 2 paving the way for Kang the Conqueror’s arrival, The Marvels expected to have a huge X-Men connection, and Deadpool 3 bringing Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine into the MCU, fans are hoping each new Marvel Studios’ project will bring them closer to the Multiversal War expected in Avengers: Secret Wars.
