The next chapter of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations will seemingly include a timeskip.
A report from Sportskeeda alleges that the highly anticipated timeskip in the Naruto spinoff series will likely occur in the coming chapter. The evidence for this comes from the recently released cover of the next issue, which features the words “Boruto: Part 1 completed” on it. This, combined with the ending of Chapter 80, the most recent installment of the series, has led many to believe that Boruto will return from its hiatus with a timeskip, carrying the title into its next saga.
What Happened in the Last Chapter of Boruto
The last chapter of the series — Chapter 80, “What Dad Would Do” — concluded with a cliffhanger that showed Boruto preparing to train to defeat Kawaki after the latter used Eida’s reality swap power to trade their lives around, with Boruto perceived by the village as the villain. If the timeskip occurs in the next chapter of the manga, it will take the story in a new direction and offer up some big changes for the characters and the world.
Timeskips are a common trope used in anime and manga, as seen in many of the industry’s most prolific titles. For example, One Piece famously introduced a two-year time skip between the “Post-War” arc and the “Return to Sabaody” arc, which led to massive changes for the characters and ramifications for the world. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is also known for its use of timeskips, with each new season offering a look at the next generational member of the Joestar family tree. Plus, the Naruto series itself experienced one of its own between the original Naruto series and Naruto: Shippuden. Other notable examples are Gintama, Attack on Titan, Dragon Ball and Gurren Laggan.
The Boruto manga was originally written and illustrated by Ukyo Kodachi and Mikio Ikemoto, respectively, before writing duties were handed over to the creator of the Naruto series Masashi Kishimoto. It follows the titular Boruto, the son of Naruto, as he seeks to become a powerful ninja and make a mark outside his father’s shadow. The series was adapted into an anime by Studio Pierrot, the same company that created its predecessor. However, fans and critics have received this adaptation poorly, citing bad animation as one of the show’s most significant drawbacks.
