One Piece is already absolutely massive and continues to grow with each passing year. There are many people who are still afraid of getting into One Piece, thinking it is too long, or not liking the 4:3 aspect ratio, among other things.
Now, One Piece is getting a complete anime remake, which should be dropping at some point next year, if rumors are to be believed. Recently, the people at Wit Studio commented on why the One Piece remake is being made in the first place, and it has only excited the fans even more.
The One Piece Remake Announcement
The One Piece Anime Is Getting A Remake
The One Piece anime remake announcement came during Jump Festa 2024. It is safe to say that this was the biggest announcement at the event, and something that fans never even expected in their wildest dreams. One Piece anime has been created by Toei Animation for decades, and the majority of the fans expected the show to continue that way.
Of course, the staff at Toei Animation put all their hard work into making this anime as good as it can be, however, that is not to say that it is perfect. The current One Piece anime that fans have has many flaws, and overall, it cannot be said that it is the best product. Even though the anime has improved massively ever since the Wano Country arc, some major issues, especially those pertaining to pacing and in canon filler still persist. At the same time, the vast majority of the second half of the story, specifically from Fishman Island all the way to Wano, is a pain to get through, because the series suffers from pacing issues and the animation quality drops terribly.
All these things, when taken into consideration, are proof of the fact that the current One Piece anime is not perfect. One could see why the popularity of One Piece is affected and why not many consider it to be worth watching anymore. This is especially true for the newer generation of fans, who would rather get into something more concise, and more beautiful in terms of art and animation.
The One Piece anime remake announcement came during Jump Festa, and back then, it was announced that this project had just started. They were still recruiting a strong team to make this a reality, and ever since then, fans have been excited for this dream to come true. The studio handling the One Piece remake is Wit, which is one of the very best at this point in time. Some of the recent works that absolutely blew fans away include Ousama Ranking, which is known for its stellar direction, and of course, incredible animation as well. Given that One Piece is a much bigger IP, fans can expect the very best from the upcoming anime from Wit Studio, and that has all the fans excited.
Why One Piece Needs An Anime Remake
One Piece Anime Can Still Get Better
As explained above, One Piece needs an anime remake for various reasons. The biggest reason is to fix the pacing of the show, and, at the same time, to improve the overall quality of the anime product. One Piece is global already and the vast majority of the fans have absolutely come to love it, however, it can become even more popular if it receives a proper anime adaptation. Recently, George Wads, the president and co-founder of Wit Studio, talked about the One Piece anime remake and why this whole project is being worked upon in the first place. Here is what he had to say:
“We’re making “THE One Piece” anime to reach a wider audience. Many hesitate to watch the current series because of its old 4:3 format and the high number of episodes. We’re addressing these issues in the remake.”
Wada pointed out that the old 4:3 aspect ratio of the anime isn’t appealing to fans anymore. This is true in a sense and would be fixed in the upcoming anime remake of One Piece. At the same time, fans need to keep in mind that the incredible amount of episodes that One Piece has is simply too much. All that can be fixed with proper pacing and fans can get a much more concise anime that fans would be more willing to watch.
Of course, that still doesn’t mean that the anime is going to be short by any means. A proper adaptation would cover every single thing perfectly but still reduce the episode count by hundreds. Right now, the One Piece anime is closing in on 1100 episodes, but a One Piece remake could potentially fit all of that into half or fewer episodes. At the very least, fans should expect a total of 500 or more episodes for the entirety of One Piece in the remake, and that would make it a perfect adaptation.
The One Piece Remake News Announcement Expectations
One Piece Remake Announcements Should Come Soon Enough
The expectations are incredibly high for the One Piece anime and fans absolutely cannot wait to be treated to more news about this project. This series is expected to fix everything wrong with One Piece, and that mostly includes the pacing, which has, at times, dragged out a lot of episodes, the aspect ratio of the first few arcs of the series, which has often kept fans from getting into it, the overall animation quality, which has dropped considerably at certain points almost led to cancellation of the anime, and above all, tackling the in canon filler, which has misconstrued Oda’s writing on many occasions. All these things taken into consideration only tell the fans that an anime remake is absolutely needed, even though the version produced by Toei Animation is stellar, to say the least.
As for when fans can expect more news about the One Piece anime remake, One Piece Day is supposed to happen in August, specifically around August 11th and August 12th. During these days, fans might get a sneak peek of the One Piece anime that is upcoming, and at the same time, more news about when they can expect a release date for the show. Later down the line, fans can also expect more news around Jump Festa 2025, which is due to happen in December 2024. These are the only major events where fans can expect a proper announcement for One Piece projects, and hopefully, they won’t have to wait too long before everything comes to fruition.
One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1120, is set to be July 14, 2024.
