Given its recent anime debut, the Wind Breaker series is garnering traction for all the proper seasons. The series, seemingly like the typical high school series, is premised on delinquent teenagers rivalling one another to prove superiority.
The series focuses on the central character, Haruka Sakura, whose only wish is to fight stronger opponents on his way to the top. He begins to fulfil that wish when he joins Furin High School— a school famous for its delinquent activities, albeit in the name of protecting the Furin community. Sakura soon realises there might be more to his life than the need to fulfil his wish. The series, albeit simplistic, presents quite the cast regarding strength and ability. While most have revealed their capabilities, some have done so more than the rest. Therefore, here are the strongest characters from the manga series.
10 Toma Hiragi
Tamon Team Leader
- Manga Debut: Chapter 01
A third-year student at Furin High School, Toma Hiragi is one of the Four Heavenly Kings of Bofurin. Also, the commander of the Vaisravana unit, Hiragi, is the closest advisor to Umemiya because he is always tasked with informing him of any situation. Due to the sheer number of conflicts the gang engages in, Hiragi always seems stressed because he is always among those on the frontlines of such conflicts.
Hiragi possesses incredible physical strength, as she is shown to be able to bend a metal bat easily with his bare hand. While strong, Hiragi is also impressively durable for a teenager, withstanding a hit from a meta bat while protecting Sakura and Kotoha. Above all, Hiragi’s close combat abilities are not slacking either, making him a rather brute character.
9 Jo Togame
Shishitoren Second-in-Command
- Manga Debut: Chapter 06
The Vice Leader of Shishitoren, Jo Togame, is second only in authority to Choji Tomiyama and quite the force to be reckoned with. Ruthless and arrogant, Togame has the skills to back up his arrogance to great effect. Blessed with physical strength surpassing his peers, Togame is a fearsomely unpredictable opponent, as shown by his battle with Sakura.
Given his size, he is also extremely agile, displaying extraordinary reactive power, which lets him adjust to his opponent’s speed relatively easily. Togame appears calm and laid-back; however, beneath his calm facade is a ruthlessly cruel individual whose answer to most situations is power. However, Togame’s most outstanding quality is his ‘limitless stamina,’ enabling him to keep fighting for extended periods without rest, further alluding to his physical capabilities.
8 Shuhei Suzuri
Founder Of Gravel
- Manga Debut: Chapter 73
The ex-leader and founder of Gravel, Shuhei Suzuri, is a relatively nonchalant and aloof person whose primary motivation is money. Having come from a community where the economy was more or less at its lowest and had no dependable structure, Suzuri created Gravel as a band of delinquents/mercenaries who would take on odd requests like kidnapping for money.
As Gravel’s former head, Shuhei’s skill is nothing to scoff at, given his equal standing with Tsubakino during their fight. This makes him an above-average fighter in comparison to others, given that Tsubakino is one of the stronger of the Four Heavenly Kings. Due to his extremely pessimistic attitude, Shuhei only focuses on his motivation and objective during fights, which sometimes affects his judgments, as seen with Tsubakino.
7 Tasuku Tsubakino
Jikoku Team Leader
- Manga Debut: Chapter 37
One of the Four Heavenly Kings and guardian of the East, Tsubakino is a rather outspoken and confident person. While Furin High School is a school for boys, Tsubakino takes on a very feminine trait that shows through how they dress, speak, and ask to be addressed. This implies an uncertain gender disposition, which, until clarification, Tsubakino will receive gender-neutral pronouns.
More or less, the figure of love and affection within Bofurin, Tsubakino, is very empathetic towards others and is quick to dote on anyone who piques their interest. However, in terms of ability, Tsubakino’s position within Bofurin is an accurate allusion to their overall ability in combat. Referred to as one of the strongest of the Heavenly Kings, Tsubakino is more than capable of fighting, as shown during their fight against Shuhei Suzuri of Gravel, who they ultimately defeated.
6 Suo Hayato
Vice Captain of the Vaisravana Unit
- Manga Debut: Chapter 03
Considered to be one of the strongest among the first-years, Hayato Suo is a central supporting character of the series and a member of the Vaisravana unit of Bofurin. Suo is usually eerily calm and collected, even in extreme situations, making his judgment almost coldblooded. He can make level-headed decisions without hinting at emotions.
Regarding fighting ability, Suo’s potential is arguably the highest among the first-years, and he is currently immensely strong due to his mastery of mixed martial arts akin to some form of Aikido. However, what makes Suo even more dangerous is his ability to induce fear into his opponent through his calm demeanour during combat, as seen against Minoru of Shishitoren. Like Togame, Suo is also somewhat unpredictable, making it difficult for his opponent to read his actions.
5 Haruka Sakura
Captain of the Vaisravana Unit
- Manga Debut: Chapter 01
The series’ main protagonist, Sakura, is a first-year member of Furin and a member of the Vaisravana unit of Bofurin. As a character who is hugely conspicuous, Sakura is also highly perceptive about reactions from others in any given situation. Determined to get to the top of Bofurin, Sakura is quite the bold and confident individual and, more than that, extremely principled, sticking to his self-imbibed morals over anything else that might serve his purpose.
In terms of strength and fighting ability, Sakura is exceptional, given his odd agility and straightforward fighting style, as fights and violence are typically his first course of action in any altercation due to his beliefs and notions. Like most characters on this list, Sakura is excellent at hand-to-hand combat and possesses super fast reflexes, making him very troublesome to deal with in a fight, as noted by Togame during their fight. Like Suo, Sakura also has a high ceiling for potential, even though his abilities are currently nothing to scoff at.
4 Yamato Endo
Former Member of Bofurin
- Manga Debut: Chapter 84
Arrogant and twisted, Yamato Endo is one of the more delinquent-fitting characters of the series. Even while at Furin High School, he was known to do as he pleased. Yamato’s carefree attitude speaks to an underlying sadistic and violent personality that ultimately led to his leaving Bofurin.
While his ideologies may have clashed with the current Bofurin, his abilities and tendencies are nothing to scoff at, as he brought Sakura to a halt with just a glare. More than that, while still Bofurin, Endo and his crew never lost even when they decided to leave Bofurin, with Umemiya further attesting to that fact. Even after his return, Endo is still the second-in-command of his new crew alongside Takiishi, which further alludes to his capabilities.
3 Choji Tomiyama
Leader Of Shishitoren
- Manga Debut: Chapter 07
The head of Shishitoren, Choji Tomiyama, is a short, seemingly bright-eyed high schooler whose only wish is to find and fight stronger opponents around his territory. Unlike Umemiya, Choji has a penchant for violence and is more impatient. Territorial and arrogant, Choji’s admiration is only for the strong as he has no patience towards those he considers weak, much like his second-in-command, Togame.
Regarding his strength compared to other characters, Choji is arguably the most gifted of the cast in a battle, possessing speed enough to create an afterimage, as seen in his fight against Umemiya. He’s also a very skilled martial artist with agility that surpasses even Sakura. However, Choji is extremely violent and has no problems with savage methods, even going as far as to bite Umemiya during their fight. His position at Shishitoren is warranted, as his presence is so intimidating that it causes fear in his subordinates with nothing more than a glare.
2 Hajime Umemiya
Leader of Bofurin
- Manga Debut: Chapter 02
Aside from the different demeanours, a third-year student and leader of Bofurin, Umemiya is entirely dissimilar to Choji. Umemiya is a relatively friendly and easygoing person regardless of his position at Bofurin; with his subordinates, according to him, respect is akin to reverence, as shown by Sugishita earlier in the series. Deeply attentive to his subordinates and environment, Umemiya is very invested in the general welfare of all around him, including the community.
However, carefree as he may seem, Umemiya is another of the cast’s physical heavyweights. Intimidating as he is loved, he commands the awe and fear of his subordinates with a single word. Like Togame, Umemiya also possesses extraordinary physical abilities, with his brute force almost matching the latter. His position and the calibre of characters at Bofurin further allude to his strength and influence.
1 Chika Takiishi
Strongest Man In Bofurin’s History
- Manga Debut: Chapter 90
More of a legend than a myth, Chika Takiishi is the series’ strongest character, as Umemiya explicitly states during his explanation of Bofurin to Sakura, Nirei, and Suo. Like Endo, Takiishi has a whimsical and indifferent demeanour in most situations. However, like Endo, Takiishi has an extremely sadistic and ruthless nature. He has no regard for anything or anyone and would ruthlessly break down anyone in his path if he feels like it.
With a presence so intimidating, he made Suzuri tremble with just a word. Regarding combat ability, Takiishi is the strongest of the series cast by fair consideration, as he has been shown on multiple occasions taking down multiple opponents without so much as breaking a sweat, despite having a smaller physique. Like a true villain, Takiishi is unpredictable, and quiet and lives only for his pleasure.
