My Hero Academia is currently in the final war Saga and the story is incredibly close to wrapping up now. Horikoshi had previously made known his intention to wrap up the story in 2024, and at the moment, it appears that he’s on track to accomplish just that a few months down the line.
Of course, at the moment, fans are getting to see an incredible fight brewing between Deku and All For One, and this clash is going to be the most important one in the entire series, which is a given, since it is the final fight of the entire manga. That said, there are bigger things at play than just this fight in itself, and one such element in the story is Deku being Quirkless once again.
How Deku Lost The One For All
Deku Transferred All Powers To Shigaraki
Deku attained the power of One For All from none other than All Might, his very own idol. All Might passed on the power of the One For All to Deku simply because he knew that he had it in him to become a real hero. His body moved on his own and the biggest concern for him was to save people around him with a smile, even if it came at the cost of his own life. Deku became the ninth user of the One For All, and the entire history of the Quirk was explained to him as the story continued. Deku finally understood the essence of the One For All, the reason for its existence, and why he had an important job to take on, which went far beyond becoming the number one Hero in the world.
It is safe to say that Deku did incredibly well in all the jobs that All Might entrusted to him. In fact, it can be said that the burden that All Might placed on him was rather unfair, however, Deku lived up to the expectations and far surpassed them in every way, becoming the perfect vessel for the One For All, and at the same time, bringing out its very best in the Final War Saga. Deku was able to fight against Shigaraki and perfectly counter him in battle as well. He was able to hold his own against the greatest of all evils, however, eventually, Deku knew that to defeat Shigaraki, and above all, to save him, he had to make some bigger sacrifices. Even though he did not want to admit it at first, in his heart of hearts, he knew that the One For All had to be given up.
Izuku Midoriya…Look what you’ve done to my One For All…and dear Yoichi…!!
That is precisely what happened in his final fight against Shigaraki, and Deku, in order to weaken Shigaraki and get to his very core, where he could finally see his past and his memories, transferred the vestiges one after another. Later on, Deku was able to enter a plane inside of Shigaraki’s mind, where he ended up transferring his own Quirk as well. Deku saw Shigaraki’s past unfold right in front of him. However, that was not all. The truth about Shigaraki was much deeper than he had anticipated himself and he found out how he was manipulated by All For One and how he was set up for implosion right from the get-go.
Deku’s Embers And The Fall Of All For One
Deku Still Holds The Embers Of One For All Inside Of Him
With Shigaraki’s mental being crumbling, All For One took power once again and this time around, he was at full strength. Meanwhile, Deku had lost both of his arms due to Decay, and at the same time, had also given up the power of the One For All, along with all the vestiges. This was confirmed by Deku directly to Aizawa, when he arrived on the battlefield. Thanks to Eri, Deku was able to rewind his body to a point where he could fight once again. However, without the One For All, this fight would be much more difficult for him.
I might not have had it for long, but it’s taken root in my quirkless self.
That said, Deku was not exactly Quirkless at this point. Even though he did not have the Quirk inside of him, the embers of the One For All were still in his body. This was exactly similar to what happened with All Might after he transferred the power off One For All to Deku. His body still held some embers, which allowed him to access incredible power until he burned it all out, which happened in Kamino, as fans are very well aware at this point.
Similarly, Deku now has the embers of One For All inside of his body, and he intends to use them all up in the fight against All For One in order to defeat him for good and ensure that peace prevails in the world, and end of the final war, which has gone on for way too long now.
Will Deku Remain Quirkless?
Deku’s Future Could See Him Regain His Quirk Once Again
Of course, now, fans are aware of the fact that Deku is on the path to going back to being Quirkless, like he was long ago. However, the more important question here is how long will Deku remain Quirkless for. Deku is Quirkless at this point in time and there is no denying that, but there is a possibility for the One For All to return as well. For instance, fans know for a fact that the One For All should not have been destroyed completely. It has to exist in some form, likely inside of Shigaraki. As such, this Quirk can potentially be given back to Izuku if things turn out fine. For now, Deku is going to be Quirkless and he might even end up burning the wisps of his power when he tries to defeat All For One.
However, after that, Deku could potentially regain his powers once again. If Shigaraki does end up being saved and has a change of heart, which is incredibly likely at this point, the chances for Deku to regain the power of One For All rise dramatically. Deku has fought incredibly hard and drained his body to be the next Symbol of Peace in order to maintain and protect peace all over Japan.
As long as i’ve got the ember, All For One has got me to deal with.
For him to not fulfill his dreams and simply remain Quirkless, while all the other students in his class are becoming powerful Heroes just doesn’t sit right. For this reason alone, Deku deserves to have his Quirk returned to him after the fight wraps up. Hopefully, that is the path that the author will take and the fans can then rejoice in seeing their favorite return to the screens once again.
Of course, there is also an equally real possibility of Deku becoming Quirkless following the conclusion of this war. In that case, Deku would likely still like to remain a Hero, but fight without the usage of any Quirks. He would then be very similar to All Might, and might seek help from Melissa to devise unique hero equipment for him that allows him to fight evil. Deku will never be the same, but at least he will still live out his dreams as a Hero.
