The following contains minor spoilers for the series finale of True Beauty, now available on the Webtoon platform.
It’s a wedding straight out of a webcomic with the announcement that True Beauty’s creator Yaongyi and Free Draw’s creator Jeon Seon Wook have tied the knot.
As reported by Soompi, Yaongyi revealed beautiful photos from their wedding shoot on her Instagram. The writer and artist posted pictures of her posing in different wedding outfits and the traditional Korean wedding hanbok, alone and with her partner Jeon, both of them gazing lovingly at each other and beaming with bright smiles. Yaongyi wrote, “I met someone with whom I want to spend the rest of my life, and we wound up lighting our wedding candles on a snowy white day. If you give us your blessings with a warm heart, we’ll keep those blessings in our hearts and live happily together while making up for one another’s shortcomings. Thank you.”

Life Imitating Art
Many True Beauty fans commented on her Instagram post, congratulating the happy couple. Some fans noted how Yaongyi’s marriage to Jeon parallels that of her own series where, in the True Beauty series finale, Suho proposed to Jugyeong, thus bringing both the webcomic and real-life stories full circle. Yaongyi and Jeon made their relationship public in October 2020.
Both Are Successful Webtoon Artists
Yaongyi, whose real name is Kim Na-young, published the early version of True Beauty on Naver Comics’ Challenge Comics, which is a self-publishing platform for webcomics. The initial draft starred a male protagonist described as an anime otaku but changed into its current version with a female protagonist after Yaongyi took a break from webcomics. Utilizing her experience as a fitting model and her passion for fashion and cosmetics, Yaongyi came up with True Beauty’s concept. For years, Jugyeong Lim has endured teasing and bullying from her family and friends for not fitting in with the traditional beauty conventions. After binge-watching make-up tutorials, Jugyeong transforms herself into her school’s prettiest girl. Suddenly everyone’s attitude towards her has done a 180. But now, she has to keep her secret under wraps, but that becomes a challenge when Suho Lee and Seojun Han discover her true self. True Beauty is one of the top titles on WEBTOON, amassing close to 950 million views.
Jeon penned the art for My Life as a Loser and is the artist and writer of Free Draw. My Life as a Loser follows a young man named Jinu Kim, who experienced bullying for years. Now an adult, Jinu hopes that his bullies get their just desserts, but instead, he’s horrified to see that they’re leading successful lives while he’s working a minimum-pay job. When he accidentally falls off a building, he returns to his high school years, but something has happened: Ancheol Jang, his bully, is now in Jinu’s body and Jinu is in Ancheol — the bully is now the bullied. Free Draw follows a high school thug who hopes to be a normal student on his first day of school but unfortunately regresses back to his thuggish ways when a bully tries to beat him up. The webcomic has garnered attention for Jeon’s realistic settings, and the artist revealed that he takes real photos of locations he hopes to incorporate into his work and creates a line drawing from it.
