The world better be ready for four Spy x Family Anyas: four times the cute, four times the trouble and most importantly, four times the waku waku.
Usually, for a live-action stage play, two actors take turns on different days to play the same character. The two actors for Loid and Yor Forger were previously revealed to be Win Morisaki and Hiroki Suzuki, while Fuka Yuzuki and Mirei Sasaki will play the sweet but cold-blooded Thorn Princess. Two child actors proved not to be enough to fill in Anya’s understandably large shoes: they had to cast four.
In the series, Loid’s spy agency assigned him Operation Strix, a crucial mission for him to make a family to maintain peace between the two countries. The production team likewise had an equally, if not more, important mission: “Operation Search for Anya.” Toho Animation uploaded a video of the audition process, where 10 young girls went through training. In the end, they found their four Anyas: Aoi Ikemura, Miharu Izawa, Miharu Fukuchi and Risa Masuda.
The Growing Cast of the Spy x Family Musical
This will be 6-year-old Ikemura’s debut as a stage actor. She previously acted in the TV drama Okaeri Mone and has done commercial and advertisement acting. Five-year-old Izawa has performed in musicals before, such as Kuma no Gakkou Mini Concert and Pari no Neko-tachi. Similar to Ikemura, this is also 7-year-old Fukuchi’s first time performing in a stage play. Nine-year-old Masuda is the oldest out of the four actors and has a wealth of experience under her belt since her acting debut at the age of 5. Although this will be her first time performing in a musical, Masuda is a regular member of the educational television program Miitsuketa!
Other cast members include Kurumu Okamiya and Tsubasa Takizawa as Yor’s younger brother, Yuri Briar. Nonoka Yamaguchi plays the expressionless Fiona Frost, with Kento Kinouchi playing Franky Franklin, WISE’s informant. Sōma Suzuki will play Henry Henderson, one of the teachers at Eden Academy, while Manato Asaka plays Sylvia Sherwood, otherwise known as Handler. Based on Tatsuya Endo’s popular manga series about a dysfunctional family comprised of a spy father, assassin mother and a cheeky child telepath, the stage play adaptation of Spy x Family has G2 coming on as the director, screenwriter and lyricist, with Shuhei Kamimura as the music composer and arranger.
Musical Spy x Family opens in Tokyo on March 8. The play will then travel to Hyogo Prefecture’s Nishinomiya in April and Fukuoka City in May.
