Castlevania: Nocturne Unwraps a First Look at Maria Renard for Christmas

Castlevania fans are on Santa’s nice list this year because the team behind the animated series gave them a peek at Maria Renard from the upcoming series Nocturne.

Castlevania: Nocturne co-directors Adam Deats (@/AdamDeats) and Samuel Deats (@/SamuelDeats) shared the short clip of Maria looking ethereal as she gazes into the distance, blinking slowly as orange glowing embers float past her. Samuel revealed that KT (@/kloysius) designed and drew Maria while Adam handled the lighting and composite.

Castlevania Fans Loved the Sneak Peek

Fans couldn’t hold themselves back from praising the 6-second clip, with one saying, “she’s here!!! so beautiful ??” and another raving over the art style, “She is gorgeous! God I love Castlevania’s art style so much!” Anticipation for seeing Maria fully animated seems high, with particular interest expressed in seeing her alongside Alucard. Because the post provided no other context, fans also speculated about Maria’s age, pondering whether her character in the series will be closer to 12 or a bit older, around 18 years old. Due to the art style, some fans suggested she could be somewhere in the middle, at approximately 15 years old.

Netflix gave fans a first look at the highly-anticipated Nocturne series, which will star Richter Belmont, a descendant of Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades, back in June of this year. The brief teaser offered a peek at the series’ new protagonist and allowed fans to hear numerous character voices, although the trailer only features Richter.

Alucard in Nocturne

The story will take place hundreds of years after the conclusion of the original Castlevania’s fourth season, meaning that Trevor and Sypha are unlikely to make an appearance, given the amount of time that has elapsed between the series. However, supposing Nocturne relies on the storyline from the video game. In that case, it’s possible that Alucard, the immortal son of Dracula, will make an appearance, as Richter’s story from the video game closely connects him to the character.

Castlevania’s spinoff Nocturne will release on Netflix. However, there is no news regarding a firm premiere date for the series, although it is believed it may premiere sometime during the summer of 2023.
