Naruto Fan’s Eye-Popping Itachi Cosplay Is Something to Crow About

Costume maker extraordinaire Bryan Dracule (aka BZNintendo) has crafted a terrifying take on Itachi Uchiha from Naruto.

Posted on Reddit, the pictures of the bloody Itachi cosplay show the character decked out in his Akatsuki attire. Crows swarm around him with one creepily bursting forth from his eye, creating a very fitting and haunting image of the genjutsu master.

The missing-nin and former ANBU captain isn’t the only popular anime character BZNintendo has brought to life. The cosplayer’s Reddit account also features photos of equally impressive recreations of Pokémon’s Guzma and My Hero Academia’s Shigaraki. BZNintendo has cosplayed video game characters like Cloud Strife and Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII as well.

The History of the Naruto Anime

The Naruto manga by Masashi Kishimoto appeared in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1999 until 2014, and with over 250 million copies in circulation around the world, the series stands alongside Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball and Tite Kubo’s Bleach as one of the best-selling manga of all time. The story follows the titular orange-clad ninja as he pursues his dream of becoming Hokage. Under the guidance of his Jonin Instructor, Kakashi, and along with his teammates, Sakura and Sasuke, Naruto learns how to be a powerful shinobi and discovers many dark secrets about his world.

Studio Pierrot adapted Kishimoto’s manga into two anime series — Naruto and Naruto Shippuden, which initially ran between 2002 and 2017 — and the sequel, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, is ongoing. To commemorate the first show’s 20th anniversary, four brand-new Naruto episodes will release in September 2023. The franchise also features a wealth of adaptations across other mediums like tie-in films, video games, guidebooks, novelizations and even stage plays. Many merchandising companies have released a plethora of Naruto collectibles over the years as well. For example, figurine maker FanHome now offers a subscription service for the ninja-centric series that provides members with a new hand-painted character figure each month.

Of course, Itachi isn’t the only fan-favorite Naruto character that has recently inspired stunning cosplay. Last month, prominent cosplayer Izanamitan posted pictures of their Kushina Uzumaki costume that spotlights her bright red hair and references her powerful Adamantine Sealing Chains technique. Moreover, Izanamitan also fabricated a strikingly accurate cosplay of Ino Yamanaka. The outfit shows off the Leaf Village kunoichi’s intense blue eyes and her long blonde hair.

Kishimoto’s Naruto manga is distributed by VIZ Media in North America, and the anime adaptations by Studio Pierrot are available to stream on Crunchyroll.
