Haikyu!! Gag Manga Spinoff Set to End on Nov 12

Over two years after the end of Haruichi Furudate’s hit volleyball manga Haikyu!!, the gag manga Let’s! Haikyu!? will also end its run.

As reported by Otaku USA Magazine, the spin-off four-panel manga Let’s! Haikyu!? will release its final chapter, Chapter 294, on Nov. 12. The gag manga, created by Retsu, retells the story of Haikyu!! but in a more light-hearted and silly manner. Let’s! Haikyu!? began its serialization in September 2014 until July 2018 before it went on hiatus and restarted again in October 2020. At the moment, the series has ten tankōbon volumes.

Haikyu!! follows the journey of Shoyo Hinata, who aspires to be the next Little Giant after seeing a volleyball game on T.V. In that game, a wing spiker dubbed ‘the Little Giant’ overcomes all the walls that face him despite his short stature. In a sport that values height, the Little Giant found his own way to fly. Hinata enrolls in Karasuno High School and immediately butts heads with another teammate, the genius setter Tobio Kageyama due to the two’s past rivalry in middle school. But the view beyond the wall that Hinata yearns to see isn’t something he can overcome on his own, and with the help of Kageyama and the rest of his teammates at Karasuno, he may be able to do just that.

Haikyu!! is one of the most popular sports manga ever. The series won Best Shōnen Manga at the 61st Shogakukan Manga Award in 2016 and voted eighth in a poll taken by over 150,000 people when asked what their top 100 manga series was. Over 55 million copies are in circulation as of August 2022.

Three seasons of the anime aired from 2014 to 2016 under Production I.G. and focused on Karasuno’s road to qualify for Nationals. The fourth season aired in 2020, titled Haikyu!! To the Top, and ran split-cour with the second half airing in October 2020 after the COVID-19 pandemic delayed it for a few months. Season 4 ended with Karasuno finally facing Nekoma High School for the legendary Battle of the Garbage Dump. A final two-part movie called Haikyu!! Final will conclude the rest of the story with Production I.G. and Toei Animation at the helm of its production. The series announced a kick-off event for the film would take place in August 2023.

The final chapter of Let’s! Haikyu!? can be read, in Japanese, on the Shonen Jump+ app. All 402 chapters of the original series Haikyu!! are available on Viz Media and Manga Plus.
